I've been looking into doing some cd laddering. It seems the best cd rates are offered by these completely online banks like www.giantbank.com

What do you guys think of these banks?
Are they safe?
Which one is the preferred ATOT bank:) ?

My friend did that too, and hasn't had any problems that I know of.

same here. I haven't been ripped off yet. the interest rate is way better than what you would get at a b&m bank savings account.

I use ING for my savings account only, and I use First Internet Bank of Indiana for my checking account. Free checking, they re-imburse you the ATM fees you get charged, checking account has interest on it. We have had it for over 4 years now, no problems ever... www.firstib.com

I use NetBank and also have a accoun with Japan Netbank (not related). No problems.

Another vote for ING Direct savings. 2.00% beats anything else out there, and it's great as a ACH hub type thing. :)

Ing savings here too. I have been using it since the days of 4.75% interest. That was about 2 years ago hehe.

I've used bankone for about 7 years (originally payed bills via quicken software). They have a great online system and excellent customer service if a check doesn't get received or something (rare, but has happened).

The bank itself is ok, very high penalties for the slightest misstep imo, but it seems all of them do.

edit: just realized you're looking for cd/savings info - I doubt bankone is anything special for that.

I've used eTradeBank for several years now, savings and CDs, no problems. Unless a bank is lying about being FDIC insured they're just as safe as the bank down the street.

I use etradebank too and NEED to find someplace that offers interest on a liquid account that pays higher than 1.37%.

Please give me options.

Have an account with INGDirect, but my local credit union beats their rates, so most of my money is there. 1.24% interest on checking 2% on savings

I have a savings account at Ing @ 2.00%....and I work at a B&M bank! :Q

You do have to be careful. I've seen notices about some online banks claiming to be FDIC insured when they're not. Any questions, check www.fdic.gov. There's a link there to check if your bank is FDIC insured.

ING pulling cash from my chequing twice/month. I've been with them since October, and since they're federally insured, you know you're safe with them.

I have an online account that pays 20% interest. It's great deal. I still have to keep my normal bank so I can cash my checks. Then I send my money Western Union to the bank in Nigeria. They say Western Union is cheaper for them, and they even refund me the western union fees.

I use Presidential bank 2.75% interest, and ING 2.0% interest.

Both have been incredible thus far.
