I have a chance to buy a HP touch smart 23-f213 but I'm not sure of the actual value it doesn't have a hard drive keyboard or mouse. I don't mind buying any of that but I don't even know what hard drive I need or what to do with it after its put in I haven't touched a computer in over 4 years. Any advice please

Hi. Welcome to the forums. :)

Searching Google for HP touch smart 23-f213 finds a lot of links. You can check specs and reviews for the machine as well as discussions of problems, current prices and much more.

It sounds like you don't know a lot about computers. If so, when buying a used machine, especially one without a hard drive, either you really need to know what you're getting and what it will take to restore it, or you have a good personal friend who does.

You'll also have to buy a hard drive so add that to your actual cost.

To install Windows, you will need an OEM copy of the version of Windows that came with the machine. You can probably borrow a copy because the license to install it is built into the machine. You'll also need to know how to do this or someone who does.

There's a lot more, and you'll need to know how to do these things or someone who does.

Tell us more about what you already know, and we may be able to provide more help.

This would really be dictated by how much you want to spend. Since it doesn't have a hard drive, I would recommend getting the recovery media from HP over scouting out a copy of 8 that will work on this machine. You can order it from here:

https://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc...dlc=en&lc=en&os=4132&product=5367271&sw_lang=

I'll just give you one example. I would probably order a 256 GB SSD for something like that
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-820-_-Product
and an SSD adapter
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-013-_-Product
and a look in the repair manual on getting to it:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03397833.pdf

So you'd be out $120, plus the cost of the recovery DVD, and whatever mouse and keyboard you want.

Since Newegg wants $661 for a refurbished one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA22F1X24243 I'd say $200 is a steal, assuming everything else (like the touchscreen and wifi) works.
