I just got done specing out two gaming systems. Any suggestions would be nice. I was going to use the chaintech VNF4 instead Epox 9NPA because of the price difference - but I can?t find anyone with it in stock. (Person is on a budget.) Do NOT suggest opterons or overclocking, and dual core proccessor is not needed.

If you know of any corners I can cut with these two systems just say so? The system will be primarily used for gaming.

Cheaper system:

Wish I could copy and paste excel documents into the forum 🙁

you should be able to hunt down a better price on the 6800GS..
If you want dual monitors.. and the priamary use is gaming, if space isnt an issue why not get two CRTs?

Drop the Audigy and use onboard sound. Then upgrade to a 7600GT video card. Gaming depends on the video card the most, 6600 and 6800 are getting really old for a gamer system.

Downgrade the monitors to 17" and use the leftover money to buy yourself a better video card. Preferably a Sapphire Radeon X850XT or an eVGA nVidia GeForce 7600GT. Both are around $179-189 on Newegg.

Graphics cards, I agree with last post on X850 and 7600GT. Basically don't get the 6800GS, and get a 7600GT if you want quiet or a X850XT for better performance and OCing. The X850XT can be had for as little as $154, the 7600 as little as $174AR

FYI: The PC will only have one monitor - I just put an LCD on their so my friend can pick between the two.

The cheapest 7600gt on anandatech RTPE is 195 dollars. And according to RTPE the cheapest 6800GS 170. The 6800GS will be sufficent for the person who is using it. You can always buy something better for that "extra 25 dollars". You have to draw the line somewhere.

Onboard audio sounds gross - the difference is like night and day.

Downgrade the monitor? You'll probably be keeping the monitor way longer than the video card so I don't think that's a good idea.

trigger if you're not going to take our advice then dont bother asking here
1. get dual core
2. get rid of that light
3. dont get a 6800gs. nvidia 7xxx series or ati 1xxx series video cards
4. get a regular wired keyboard to save money
5. get 2gb of ram

He can not afford a dual core and it will serve him no improvement for what he will use the PC for.

He want the light.

He can not afford 7xxx card, and the 6800gs card will be fine.

He wants a wirelesskeyboard because of the way his desk works. (sliding drawer)

2gb or ram is 2x as more expensive and most games will play just fine with 1gb. If he had a bigger budget maybe.
