Just want to complain for a minute.
Well, all of my crunchers are kind of down. I got home from work this morning (or yesterday morning if it takes me a while to type this all up) and it started.
New rig had a kernel panic. :Q I was kind of expecting it, since I've gotten a couple of sig 11s. For people that don't compile often, that usually means the ram is bad. This is my new machine. Mobile athlon 2400+ running with the ram at 166. I got PC3200. Running at PC2700 speeds shouldn't be a freaking problem! I'm going to try it at 133, and if I still have problems it's going back (I have another motherboard that can use it if it works properly at 133). First bad ram ever. :| Plenty of lost md5crk points there.
I put in a new wifi card in my ahtlon 1800 since the USB one keeps timing out. Kernel panic. On boot. Ugh. Booted into single user mode, tried to bring up the wired nic, and it locks up. NIC went bad. Worked fine yesterday. Pull it, throw in an Intel card (Linksys was never GOOD, but it's gotten BAD). Works fine. Minimal loss of SoB points.
The plug came out of my laptop last night, so the battery was near 0% left (iBook puts itself into sleep mode if the battery gets REALLY low). Plug it back in, eventually get the thing to wake up. A couple of lost md5crk points there.
I started checking email and AT to see if jrun was still stalking me, and of course... The power goes out. It's the beginning of the crappy Eastern Summer heat and humidity here, so that isn't much of a surprise. It comes back on shortly, and promptly goes back out. It teases me several times like this, so I flip the switches on the powersupplies of my computers before getting a neat strobe effect in my room.
I just went to bed. Set my alarm on my phone, and tried to ignore all of the lost points. I ended up waking up early and got everything powered back up. F@H, SoB, md5crk, and lifemapper points lost? Roughly 8 hours worth.
And of course, the DSL's down. It looks like a bad DSL modem. So hopefully that will get fixed tomorrow, but I really really doubt it. So probably Monday. Yay. Luckily I work an extra day (Sunday), so I won't be too bored. At home atleast.
I'm bad at caching work units, so I'm sure my machines will run out of things to crunch over the weekend. I know md5crk will continue to crunch, if the machine stays up of course. So maybe I'll just switch everything over to that.
I went to HD and tried to order the "discounted ram" available there... Nope, won't let me. Just got a new card from the bank, and it's not being accepted there. Works everywhere else. Screw it. Ordered some mushkin on newegg. It was cheaper with better timings anyways.
Getting to work tonight, I remembered that the usual entrance was closed for no reason what so ever, so I entered through another gate. And of course, they're stripping the stairs or something in front of the only door I know of to the room where I work. Probably ruined the carpet walking through there (although I wiped off my shoes as well as I could). It'll make going to the bathroom interesting.
I think that's it for now. I'm sure I'll have something else to complain about later. :|
