While putting together a project, themed with a mix of memorable photographs from the 1960's - 1970's, and a track of music from the same era, something struck me about what Mitt Romney said while criticizing those lazy 47 %.
After all Mitt, isn't that the goal?
Wasn't that the goal?
Creating that 47+%?
Hasn't that in fact been the goal ever since the turmoil we as a nation experienced during the 60's and 70's era?
That "complacent" society?
That 47+ %?
The masses, the working class, feeding off the hand of the government.
Having just enough to get by, but never enough to get anywhere.
And a system rigged to maintain just that...
Damned if that doesn't sound like the goal and the path our government has been setting ever since I can remember.
No... this isn't some anti government rant, nor republican rant or democrat rant.
This appears to be exactly the master plan.
And has been ever since those turbulent 60's and 70's day of not so long ago.
The day when people cared, marched, protested, and made a difference.
A master plan with giving us today a few people with the all the power and all the wealth,
and all the others kept well under control.
Complacency.
Call it the LSD or marijuana of politics and power.
Handed out freely to every American that might question.
Keep the people sedated, controlled, and under control.
Sure, maybe from time to time a few might climb up and out, and join those on the top of the mountain of power and success, maybe by inventing something wonderful like the Snuggy. Or some newly discovered talent that lands you on your very own prime time television sitcom reality show.
Or maybe if you really get lucky, you just might hit it big on wall street, possibly win the lottery, find a pot of gold buried in the back yard.
But in all fairness, that will never happen. Not to that 47+%.
So just how does one control the masses down below, those struggling day to day?
How does a government keep all the people "down there" happy?. Complacent?
Keep them from ever wanting more, getting more, earning more, and especially having the opportunity of experiencing more?
In other words, to guarantee the masses a life of complacency?
Well first... how about handing down to them just enough.
No more, no less, but just enough.
Just enough so where those masses feel that have just enough. Enough but never more.
No longer desires.
Caring less who is president.
No desire in voting.
Caring less what war or wars we are currently fighting.
Or caring less how many are dying.
Caring less who is ill. Who is suffering.
Not caring about much of anything. About nothing at all.
Because after all, why should those "down there" have any say in what the big boys are doing?
And just who are those "down there" to even question the powerful on the mountain top?
Who do they think they are?
Since when should the masses have any say in anything power does?
Those entitled? That elite?
Simply keep those "down there" complacent.
Toss them just enough to get by, but never more.
Never more, never less, but just enough.
If the powerful wish to conduct war, hide the reality of war from those complacent.
Never show them aircraft unloading a soldiers casket draped in the US flag.
None of their concern. None of their business. Just remain complacent.
Instead... show them.... The Kardashians. Paris Hilton. What the Royal Family is up to?
Cover celebrity as if it were the news. Nightly. Every night. Night after night.
The news reporters can do it. Do that. Make it into the news. Create the news.
But for God's sake... never stir up the masses with the reality of war and death.
That can be sooooo messy.
And besides, by reporting news, real news, well that just might stir up someone living in the world of complacency.
And you know what that would mean....
It could mean people "just might" start paying attention.
Start asking the difficult questions.
Shit, and God forbid, even might MARCH, PROTEST or VOTE with their God given brain.
And surely the mountain top dwellers wouldn't want THAT...!
So keep them complacent.
Toss then the bone, but only when they need one. And never when they want one.
Take away their jobs. Send them far away.
Take away their homes.
Take away their retirement.
Take away their child's chance at college.
And most important of all, never let them remember. Never learn a lesson from the past.
Then demonize everyone! Blame them for their failure.
Take away all they have, then blame them. Sweet!
Play the old game switcher-roo.
Swap their paycheck for an unemployment check.
Swap food for food stamps.
Swap a house payment for rental assistance.
Because after all... new cars, a house, college, and a job will just get them all riled up.
Might make them vote.
Might make them notice.
Notice what has been going on around them.
Just what that master plan has been all this time....
Let us, the powerful, turn America into such a place that no one, not a single one of them, will care or feel any desire to care.
So I wonder... why does Mitt Romney complain about the 47%?
Why do any of them complain?
They know who they are, and they know who we are.
And that has been the arrangement.
That is exactly how they set that system up, ever since a politician could be bought and sold.
Ever since people could be made to feel helpless. Stuck. Complacent.
The acceptance of ones complacency.
Why would GW Bush stopped allowing flagged draped caskets of dead service men and women to be publicized?
Why would a government with both a house and a senate, not to mention presiding presidents (plural), turn a blind eye while good paying middle class American jobs were moved off to foreign lands? And do absolutely nothing about it?
Why would a congress sit back and watch as wall street played russian roulette with workers retirement savings, home values, and future security?
Why would the CEO of a bank <insert name, any name> walk away with multimillions in bonuses after raping grandma's social security savings? All while not one congress person or sitting president then called 911?
Why are people made to believe that all they need in life are guns, God, and food stamps?
Why every US congress is owned and operated by banks, business and the insurance industry?
And why we have reached the point where the only demons in society are the unions, the teachers, the dark skinned, and the gays?
And why would Mitt Romney, or Barack Obama, or any republican or democratic leader ever want things any differently than it already is.
Just enough to not care, and not too little to get upset.
The few on the mountain top, and the rest... the complacent.
