First deal...

Needed a PS for the Outpost AMD XP 1800+ package from a couple weeks ago. Compgeeks has the
Macron Power MPT-400 for $39 - one of those 10% off coupons. For me in Northern CA, it came to
$45 and change.

This is an AMD recommended PS for XP 1500+ through XP 2100+.

whats the chance the 300w PS in my Antec SX-830 case will work with that ECS / 1800+ combo? i got in on it too. already have the mobo and my cpu has shipped, so i plan to put it together this week as soon as the cpu arrives.

was just planning on giving it a try with the existing ps. could this cause damage (burn out my ps?) or just not allow the box to boot due to not enough power or what? thanks for advice in advance.

I too have this case... What if any possible harm could come to my CPU/MB? from an subpar Power supply...

Nickel the chance of a subpar harming your computer system right off the bat is slim. But over the long run is where subpar power supplies can hurt your system if happens to catch fire. the odds of even a subpar ps catching fire or burning up are very slim though.

The following power supply received a pretty good review from Mikhailtech.com I also read a couple of reviews on another site from actual users who all (4-5) rated it four or five stars. Does anyone here have a L&C ps? Comments?

L&C 350W power supply review

Quote
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pros
Reliable, good heatsinks
Best kind of intake grating
Biggest capacitors I've seen
Very quiet & stays cool
Very roomy inside
Big improvement for DEER
Price: $17

Cons
Not enough connectors
Cables are way too short
Exhaust fan grill

DEER really surprised me with the L&C 350watt model. While not the best of the best, it's a huge improvement over the relatively low-quality models I've seen from them in the past.

L&C received good evaluation from Mikhailtech. You need to know Mikhail is a high school kid but with some reputation. L&C is a brand name from Deer and Deer has AMD stamp of approval.
The main complain about Deer used to be overheating. I know from experience it makes quite a noise. It looks that L&C is significant improvement with respect to old Deer, according to Mikhail.
In fact L&C is not that new as Mikhail claims, it has been around for awhile
I have one L&C and it still overheats but if you have bigger well ventilated case it is OK. I wouln't like to put it in a small case, it can increase the temperature inside the case considerably. I don't know about stability mark, Mikhail claims it is fairly decent except for the 12V line. So I guess it is fine for AMD system.
Again, not the first class but OK. If your system is precisous and important to you that might not be OK for you. Macron is a decent choice too.
It looks to me a bad idea replacing Antec with L&C or even Macron unless you have a lot of devices. Antec is the first class, arguably the best power supply money can buy, more stable and more powerfull than these two unless there is a significant difference in nominal power rating.
I'd prefer Antec 300 to L&C 350. The only 350 power supplies I 'd replace Antec 300 with would be Enermax, HEC/Heroichi, and Sparkle. Actually Sparkle 350 is even not that expensive and then you can really relly on that for a big system with a lot of devices.
This all might look irrelevant but when you think of the ways a bad power supply can damage your computer then it is quite important what kind of PSU you have.

I only offer this comment for people who have never purchased anything from compgeeks.com
I had a rediculously poor experience with them.
What I received was defective, and when I sent it back it took 6 weeks to get my money refunded (even tho the shipping confirmation indicated that they received the package within 4 days).
Just one guy's opinion.
