Compatible processor?

I have a single core AMD athlon 64 2.4ghz processor. I want to upgrade processors and I am wondering what processor is compatible. I have an Asus sli motherboard.

You need to go to ASUS's site and look for a compatiblity listing.

What type of socket is it? 939? AM2? If 939, you're options are _very_ limited since those processors aren't being made anymore and the supply of faster dual core 939 chips is really drying up. You can find them used but at a price premium. In fact, the high resale prices for 939 chips has me considering selling off all my 939 systems (#3 and #4 in my sig) and building cheap low power intel rigs in their place. I probably won't, though, since that involves quite a bit of work, would put me out of two computers for a few days and both machines are more than capable of doing their jobs. So why bother?

Where is the Compatibility Listing? ...and Where do I look on the motherboard to find the socket?

You need your specific model #. Asus has made many SLI boards for AMD processors over the years. SOmetimes, on the board itself, you can find the exact model number. Then you can pull up the unique page for it on the ASUS site.

Ok, so I don't own any ASUS products and their website is pretty terrible, but. . .

Go there and put in your model # once you find it. It should tell you the specifications. In that, it should tell you which socket your board has.

Seems like I can't find my model number. I found p/n on the mother board with: 133-k8-nf41 but it brought up nothing.

according to google 133-k8-nf41 is socket 939

And now I can't find anywhere to buy AMD Athlon? FX Processors. I would like to get a dual core but I guess the 939s are crap. Any Idea what I could do?

I see a used x2 3800 buy it now for $82 on ebay and a new one for $105. Or you can try to bid for one. One place online sells them for $142.
At $105 though, it may be better to get the $32 BE-2400 and grap a cheap board and some ddr2.

2gb ram for $25 after rebate

So for $10 less, you can have a faster system.

Build a new computer. Sell your old one piece by piece before the values drop to nothing

^ Agree that it's not worth getting a CPU upgrade when the same $ can go towards a much better new build. Even buying extra DDR ram to extend the current rig's lifetime is a marginal call, when you consider the relative prices of DDR and DDR2 (for a new build).
