well, i've got an HP dvd300i and a TDK 48X cdrw, and when i put a CDR in the TDK, my computer will hard lock (the pointer won't even move). also, before i installed the DVDR drive, my TDK worked fine. i need to be able to burn DVD's, but the piss-poor 16x CD write speed of the DVD burner is getting on my nerves...

does anyone else have both a CDRW and DVDRW drive installed, and do they play nice together? what kindof drives have you got? what could i be doing wrong??

I recently added a DVD Burner to my setup, and was doing nothing but data backup to DVD.
So I had not really checked... I just put a CDR in my CDRW drive, and it reads it just fine
with no lockups here.

CDRW: Microadvantage 52x32x52

DVDRW: Benq DW822a

hmmm.... i wonder what the problem is.... i tried contacting both HP and TDk, both blamed it on one another as well as other aspects of my setup.... i've checked and rechecked and then reconfigured all of my IDE chains, and there is no change in the problem... i had thought that there was some windows conflict with having more than one recording optical drive...

is there anyone else out there that has both a DVDR and CDRW drive installed... i know that there are more than 2 people on all of AT that have both, so come on people, let me know what's up with this.

some drives do not play nice together.

I have both optorite dvd dual format burners 4x and now the 8x version and nei ther one of them would work or would let me burn with anycdrw drives(tried 2 different burners)

Symptoms range from the bios intermitently noT recognizing the cdrw drive to burning errors.
I tried all the fixes updated firmwares slave , master, cable select, bought new power supply but they just did not want to work properly. This was also tried on 2 different nforce 2 boards. I kind of remember them working well together on a via board, maybe its a nforce board issue?

I finally gave up and just use my dvd writer as a single drive and have placed the cdrw in a external usb 2.0 enclosure.

good luck, hope your problem is fixable.

also check in your bios if the cdrw is being recognized properly.

Switch the drives around. Put them on different busses, same bus, change their master/slave settings and play around.

Could be your PSU doesn't have enough power to drive all your drives after adding the last one, so when it tries to spin up your voltage drops and your computer crashes.

I have both and I also have problems inserting a disc from time to time. It will completely hardlock the computer. See my thread for more info. It's still being problematic, BTW.
