Compatibility ssd's/motherboard

The fellow upgrading my PC claims I need a new motherboard as mine is not compatable? The new ssd's is a Samsung 850 evo 500 gb, the m/board I believe is asus (4yrs old) . I think he hasn't got the right driver, what are your thoughts cheers Gaz

It would help if you specified the motherboard. But say if its got sata2.0 then you don't get full speed from your ssd.
