Compatibility of Hammer with Socket A?

What I'm trying to find out is... where can I stop upgrading my proc without getting a new mobo? Right now I have an epox 8KhA+ with an XP1700+ which is working great, but what future processors are going to be compatible with the 266MHz bus and socket A platform? I'm guessing the hammers are going to have a new socket, since they have all those extra pins, so that won't be a possibility. Is there an intermediate processor between Palomino (the XP) and Hammer that I could still drop in this slot later?

Barton (its after Thoroughbred) is the last Socket-A core on the roadmap.

Okay, that's good. Anyone know the bus speed on those chips? I've just read they're 333DDR, which I don't think my 8KHA+ can do.

Official statement is that the K7 platform will never scale to beyond a 266MHz FSB, however rumours abound to the contrary. Personally, I'm inclined to believe the Barton and Thoroughbred will be continue with the 266MHz FSB we have now.

Okay, great. That makes for good system upgradability for the next 6 months or so.
