OK, here goes.
We have broadband through Comcast, using their Motorola cable modem. That connects to an Apple Airport base station to provide wireless, and, since Apple for some reason doesn't include a switch in their router, goes to another device to provide connectivity downstairs.
The problem is that this setup seems to hate Netgear. At first, we had a Netgear router, set up after the Airport. It would work for a while, but once a day or so nothing would connect, even though all the status lights seemed to indicate normal operation, and I could ping the Airport on any connection. Eventually I decided it must be a bad router, and temporarily replaced it with my trusty Gigafast switch. All was well for a while, until I decided to get another Netgear switch so that I could use mine elsewhere. The problem reoccurred. If the Netgear switch is ANYWHERE in the system, it dies after a while, and has to be reset. Is there some sort of weird incompatibilty between Netgear and, well, everyone else, or am I missing something? What should I do to resolve this issue?
