So I picked up:

opeteron 165
DFI lanparty sli d
2 gigs corsair valueram

Problem is that I can't get my rig to post. I have tried everything. I get 4 LED lights on which indicates that my motherboard is not registering. Powers up just fine...but no video, no beeps, nothing. So do I need a different motherboard? I ordered my cpu from newegg, but can't return it. I was told that perhaps my opteron 165 isn't supported by my motherboard out of the box and I would have to upgrade it's bios...but without a supported 939 chip at my disposal...I am at a loss. I really have no idea what to do. I have built quite a few computers and have never had this problem, however this is my first time going with a server chip on multiple recommendations. II have tried different PSUs...just 1 ram stick etc. Ideas please?

You might have shorted out something on the motherboard. Try unplugging all the case-to-motherboard wires, including the power LED, USB headers, HDD LED, etc. Use a screwdriver to start the computer.

I've heard DFI has strict PSU requirements, so maybe that's your problem. Check your manual and your PSU sticker to see if you're in compliance.

I *really* doubt it's the BIOS.

I vote dead mobo. Do you have access to a beep code card? That would help bunches.
