Compass and GPS

both will work.. however on a commerical airline they might complain about interference with avionics.. even though it shouldnt..

you can go up on a private plane and it will work. As long as you got a line of sight out the window.. you wont have a problem.
 
I use my GPS on planes all the time.. You have to have a window seat, and you loose lock a lot.. But GPSs are one of the "allowed electronics" on an airplane.
 
I wanted to know, just to see what type of route the flight takes and where we are located.

yesterday i took a delta shuttle from D.C to NY and the plane made so many turns i thought we were going south at one point and then i didnt know which side he was going to come into NYC.
