it seems like after 800X600, v3 3000 begins to drift away. (for Q3, and let's stick to this game just for performance comparison purpose)
I know for glide they will be about the same.

the reason I ask is I am gonna buy a PCI Vcard for just 1 year or so. play all kinds of games, q3 to UT to 1/2 life. (cool, OGL to Glide to D3D :) )

I wonder can a v3 last me long enough for 1024x768. (what I play)
don't care much about 32 bit.

I play at 800x600 because 1024x768 is a little too slow for me(about 7-8 fps too slow) The 4500 has 32 megs of ram and a better perofrmance + more features. GeForce mx is alot faster tho

darkangel: (not gonna spell your name CORRECTLY :) )
a personal question, what Monitor you are using, (how big actually, 15 or 17 or more?)
coz in my roomate's 17er, I played q3 in 1024X768 and 800X600 and for some reason I didn't notice it was different.
so I think I maybe happy in 800X600 too.

half life looks a lot better with fsaa on. if you're running in 800x600x16 you should be able to do 800x600x16x2x without too much trouble.

are there pci geforce mx's?

Being a former V3 3000 owner I'd say to get a V3 if you have a powerful cpu and only plan to play glide games. From what I've observed the V4 isn't faster then a V3 in Glide games. If you plan to play OpenGl games and must use 32bit color then the V4 is your card. In my opinion the V4 is essentially a V3 with 32 bit color and FSAA. The V4 drivers even work with the V3.

I don't know if a V3 would keep you afloat for another year though. Carmack's already hinting that current gen cards may have probs running Doom.
