Hi all, I currently rent a dedicated server, but it's time to move on. I'm considering the following processors:

Single Xeon Xeon E3-1230: http://ark.intel.com/products/52271/

All servers have 16GB and a 1TB hard drive, except for the first model which has 4 hard drives which can be configured in RAID. All but the last processor above are older generations, however for around the same price they offer way more cores and some of them are hyper threaded. Which processor setup would be faster for massively parallel work? Thanks in advance.
 
The server will be for hosting a relatively large e commerce site. I'm thinking that multiple hard drives might be important here. Specifically, cPanel/WHM and Fantastico will be used.

Myself, I'd stick to renting.

But if I were to go down the route you are looking at, and I'm guessing you are going to be hosting multiple virtual web sites, I'm not sure I would use any the E series CPU's. I would want the grunt of an X series.

Thanks for the advice. I'm actually still planning to continue renting, but I currently have a slow dual core and it's lagging the sites pretty badly.
 
We ended up getting a dedicated server with a Xeon 1270v2 and it appears to be adequate for now. Web hosting is absolutely brutal to computer hardware. I didn't think I'd ever see what is effectively a i7 3770 get hammered so hard. Before all the sites get consolidated onto a single server, we'll probably have to get a multi processor server.
