Is there a site that compares all of the CPUs "against" eact other?

I'm curious as to how my Athlon XP 1700+ compares to today's Semprons and Athlon 64s.

I know the new ones will be faster...but how much faster?

Its time to upgrade... but since we only surf/work/email on the PC.... I'm thinking I can keep this one going, depending on performance.

There would be a huge difference. What will the uses of the PC be? Some uses may not benefit much from the upgrade especially if you are only surfing and checking email.

There are lists on another popular "hardware" site, but I don't know if I should say which... I did leave a clue however in this answer. :)

LOL... thanks... let me try some searches and see if I can figure it out. ;)

To answer wseyller's question. The PC is used 85-90% for internet access/email/Office etc. The latest game I've played on it was the latest SimCity. :)

I've downloaded some demos that strained the integrated video on my current board, but that's an exception.

I "want" to upgrade... but the logical side of me keeps trying to talk me out of it, since "technically" I really don't need to.

just as long as you have enough memory you should be fine with what you have. I never play sim city so I don't know the recommend specs needed. I would say that with typical internet access/email/Office use it would not see enough gain in performance to justify the price of such an upgrade.

I was thinking the Tom's site as well, it's the only site that does a grand comparison of like 50 CPUs together, awesome chart!!

My dad recently upgraded from a 2ghz Intel to a 4 ghz and said he barely noticed a difference. all he does is Email, browse the web ect so I'm not sure if you would really notice much of a difference for those sort of apps. I went from a 2500+ XP barton @ 2.5ghz to a Venice 3500+ @ 2640mhz and finally I'm moving to a dual opty 170 and I haven't really been wowoed by the speed difference for email text etc.
