Comparing COD2 & BF2

COD2 sucks the ass of a thousand donkeys.

I put it in the rehash category along with Quake 4...5....6.....7.....8.....9....

There is just nothing new about it. Not one innovation. Even the biggest fanboi reviews still end up with only the 'smoke' to talk about as being new and to be honest there is better smoke in much older games (JointOps for one)

COD2 = COD + Some gfx improvements

BF2 doesnt totally fall into the rehash category. There is a fair bit of useful innovation there such as the squads, commander mode, and the best in-game stats ever seen. The infantry is totally revamped meaning people move much more realistically than previous incarnations. Still the annoyances such as the GOD-AWFUL Keybinding are there and the fact its EA ..... but then again so is COD 😀

Given the choice BF2 wins hands down. Instead of spending money on COD2 I would reinstall COD with some decent mods.

Even after BF2 released I still felt CoD:UO was the superior product. Obviously this means that I feel a graphics upgrade is even more superior.

The squad system is nice but it is just one innovation that is easily evened out when using a chat program such as TS or Vent. And stats are only for certain people. I know when I played BF2 the only reason I looked at my stats was to see how close I was to unlocked a new gun. That was quite possibly the most annoying aspect of the game. You mean to tell me that I have to play on specific servers so that I can have all of the weapons I paid for?

And then it all just boils down to the fact that I find BF2 to be way too arcadey for my tastes. Almost any server I joined was full of bunny hopping idiots.

Agreed in a lot of cases 🙂 I cant believe they dont get rid of bunny hopping, I mean seriously why spend all that time making the models for infantry look so realistic only to find them boinging around like a Rambo/Zebedee nightmare clone!

It is for me too ... JointOps is far superior but now the servers are dead as BF2 is the 'in thing'

BTW, why compare a WW2 shooter to a 'modern' shooter? Shouldn't we be comparing this game to Medal of Honor or something? 😛

How can you make a valid arguement against CoD2? The game is just being released today... 😕

Please tell me you're not basing your mighty knowledge on a pre-final build demo, because if you were you'd be pretty freaking stupid.

I could tell you but I would have to kill you 😀

My buddy works for a distributor and he is frankly amazed by it as he has been a PS1 zealot for about 8 damn years!! I sat there in the background bored as buggery for most of it and the thought I had was "This is WWII equivalent of the FIFA/Madden/NFL series for EA now"

Next year look forward to COD3..... now with greener grenades!!!

Well I threw out the question to see how a lot of you gamers thought about the 2. I have only seen the demo of COD2 and the graphics (to me) seem to be inferior to BF2 (I have the DVD). Just trying to tap some of the experience here before I buy a card (debating on whether to go with the COD 2 bundle or just get the gt. Still up in the air...

thanks for the responses...

by the way...my high schooler walked by when I was in the demo and said "why are you getting that you already have a war game" hes stuck on CSS like I am on Halo....gawd gotta get away from Halo..lol

COD for single player, but multiplayer isn't comparable. BF2 has something to look forward to, ie awards and ranks. These elements can drive a lot of people to play, and get better. Lack of these elements isn't bad though, sometimes you just want to shoot people. That's why I have 2 seperate kinds of FPS's installed, BF2 and other.

BF2 is probably a much better improvement over BF42 and Vietnam than COD2 is over COD.

This just shows how little you know about BF2.

I'm certainly not one for defending BF2, but the squad system is one of the few things they actually executed well. You can't possibly compare that system to talking on a VoIP proggy.

Not even comparable.

LMAO

Anyway the BF2 demo looked graphically good but I dont like it that much. The map was too small. BF1 maps where too small. JointOps was awesome. I still pay it sometimes. Multiplayer is way better than BF2 imo. But between BF2 and COD2 I'd prolly say COD2.

Does anybody remember Operation Flashpoint? I loved that game but I was always lost and stuck at the part where you are lost in the woods and you have to find your way out. You know what? I think I just may install that again.

OF course!! The 1st game to come close to the sort of 'dirty mud on ya boots infantry simulator' I am still hankering for! It was one of the 1st to use vehicles (even if they had the physics of helium filled baloons) and maps that light years ahead of their time in terms of size.

Awesome game and yeah I got stuck at the same part as you many times.... but didnt care too much as I would love replaying through the levels as they were different every time!

You sound like a man after my own heart... JO is the most underrated military sim ever released and I cant believe people have deserted it for CartoonField 2

I remember playing Operation Flashpoint with my roommates in college...we spent more time running each other over with jeeps then we did actually playing the game

I think maybe you should check out BF2 again then. The demo had a single-sized map, a small one. Every map comes in 3 sizes: small, medium, and large. I do believe the 64 player maps are bigger than maps in '42.
