Merry xmas.

I received a Celery M 370 1.5 ghz laptop for xmas but want to swap it for an AMD laptop and in the process, I will replace my desktop PC. Need advice.

Ok, my rig is this:

AMD64 3000+ (Artic Silver + oem HSF)
MSI Neo2 Platinum
XP Pro SP2 (not sure if I could/should keep this)
1GB OCZ Premier DDR 2x512M PC3200 (2.7V 1T 2.5-3-3-10)
Geforce2 GTS AGP card (I know...I don't play games..if I change my mind I upgrade)
Seagate 7200.7 200 GB SATA HD
EIDE LG 4163B DVD burner (may keep burner)

less important specifics

CASE: Enermax CS-656-TA ATX case w/ 3 fans
(2 front USB, 2 audio (mic/line) & one firewire port. Adjustable fan control and temp readout.)
PSU: Enermax EG425P-VE SFMA PSU (12V=29a)
PCI cards: Haupaugge PCI PVR 250 video capture card/TV tuner (I lose this..but outboard USB tv tuner capture with a laptop is ok too)
Monitor: Samsung 712N 17" LCD monitor (specs - 600:1 contrast and 12ms) & 3 year warranty (may keep this, or, if 15.4" widescreen is ok, I will sell it too with above)

Comparing this Gateway Turion64:

vs this Compaq AMD64 3500:

Beyond the obviously faster CPU, slightly larger HD and more memory, I also wonder if the shared video of the above turion is a serious drawback. Again, I don't play alot of games.

Anybody have feedback for me?

thanx

:)

Hello? Any more laptop suggestions given my desktop? What could displace my desktop?

Here is my desktop:

Enermax CS-656-TA ATX case w/ 3 fans - Enermax EG425P-VE SFMA PSU (12V=29a) - XP Pro SP2 - Neo2 Platinum - AMD64 3000+ (Artic Silver + oem HSF) - 1GB OCZ Premier DDR 2x512M PC3200 (2.7V 1T 2.5-3-3-10) - Geforce2 GTS AGP - Mitsumi 1.44 MB floppy USB 2.0 card reader - Seagate 7200.7 200 GB SATA HD - WD 80 GB IDE HD - LG 4163B IDE DVD burner - Onboard sound and LAN - Logitech PS2 wheelmouse - Microsoft PS2 internet keyboard - Samsung 712N 17" LCD monitor

I want to spend less than $1500 CDN (=$1299 CDN + taxes)

thanx for feedback,

:)

all those are at least $400 over his budget

OP, i wouldn't worry about shared video. but for your pc in the video card section you wrote that you'd upgrade if you need to later on for games. i'm not sure you'll really have that option for a laptop so you have to look a couple years into the future and see if you'll need a better video card

They may be over budget but, they are rated as desktop replacements. I have researched replacing a desktop with a functionally comparable laptob before and come to the conclusion that these types of systems are not cheap.

Just trying to give the guy a reference point.

So is the Compaq R4225CA I list above a good desktop replacement? I could always upgrade the HDD to 7200 rpm (further destroying any hope of battery life!)... but the only thing I see is that the memory is PC333 vs my PC400...although the CPU is 2.2ghz vs my 1.8 ghz. I guess that evens out for the most part?

thanx for the feedback,

:)

Does anybody know if I could replace the CPU in the:

Gateway MX 6420 (1.8 ghz Turion64 ML-32)

or

Compaq R4225CA (2.2 ghz AMD64 mobile Athlon)

with a Turion 2.2 ghz MT-40 (lower power Turion)

Could I swap the CPU's on these laptops?
