I was wondering if anyone out there has an EV Sonics system. I need some good speakers for my computer and up untill recently I was considering Klipsch almost exclusivly for its quality and power, especailly of the subwoof. But at a price of $170 its more than i want to dish out unless nothing else can compete. I found a review of EV SonicXS 2.1 here and it says it can get real loud and is best for music and games which is exatly what im going to use the speakers for. The model they reviwed was $199 but i noticed that they also make a JR 2.1 system for $99 which is about what i wanted to spend. I hate to base all i know off one review so want to know if anyone who has EV Sonic speakers to say what they will one way or another to perswade me.

I know that my final decision should be based on actually hearing them before i buy but I want to know if its worth my time to try and do so.

They have been making the speakers that you see at concerts for 75 years so i know they are a good company, they are new to the desktop though.

How much do you want to spend? Are you only looking for a 2.1 setup?

According to that review, GameSpot prefers the Klipsch.

Well i have found a couple more reviwes of it and i think im starting to like it more and more, maybe ill up my budget to 200. Im not shure weather i need 4.1 over 2.1. What i want to knew is how much they butcherd its performance for the $99 over the $199 model.

You're talking EV as in Electro Voice?

Klipsch make a nice pro line of speakers as does JBL.

Of course, everyone has to jump on the bandwagon (just like Altec Lansing, Klipsch, and JBL) and make pc speakers for the lowest cost market. Problem is you can't make high fidelity from a $170 system comprised of cheap offshore parts! It's like buying a cheap-o $35 guitar at Wally Mart and expecting to play it like a Fender. (and get Fender sound) Sorry, but it isn't going to happen!

Cheers!

hehe, you're going to have a tough time here......most of the people that i talk to on these forums are klipsch fans. including me, got the 2.1's rocking right now.

sorry i don't have anything productive to say, traditionally you get what you pay for in the computer speaker market, those "EV Sonics" look decent but the lack of a reputation is all that's holding them back.

i doubt most people have heard of ev:p

you get what you pay for:p 99 dollars doesn't get you much. you'll just end up upgrading sooner.

I listened to the EV speakers over at CompUSa and they actually sound pretty good. I would say it sounds pretty accurate. The midrange/mid-bass is pretty good because of the larger drivers. The only thing lacking is bottom end extension but the sub is punchy and puts out what I would call 'accurate, fast' bass. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for $99.
