Hi

Is there any link or can anyone share information on difference bettween Dell's
Inspiron, Vestro and XPS 15.4" Model. Which one has better performance when configuration is same. eg. all has configuration like

Core 2 DUO T7700
2.4GHz, 4MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB
965GM chipset
3GB DDR2
15.4 wirescreen
Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT with 256MB GDDR2
160 GB SATA 7200 rpm
Wireless-N
Bluetooth
Vista Ultimate

There is hardly any price difference range of (8 to 10 thousand), which confuses me which is best to purchase.

Any help/guidence is appreciated.

Well the Vostro is going to be the best built and most rugged model. Inspirons are a bit cheaper and XPS are designed to sleek and powerful.

I would say that there are much better laptops out there for less money and the same or better configurations. Unless Dell is your bag then I would say shop around.

Hi
In India there are no much choice. Dell is only one which allows customization.
Other like Acer, HP targets more towards home users, so configuration is not high for developers/professionals segment.

Your answer made me more confused. i still need to understand from you and others , about performance of all 3 under same configuration and which offers more upgrade features.

Regards

PS. if given a choice which out of 3 you will choose and why?

If they are all configured the same, they willall perform the same. Although the XPS model uses a GDDR3 version of the 8600m GT so it will be a little faster in the graphics department.

As far as upgradeability goes you are really limited with a laptop and none offer any real performance upgrades besides ram.

I would say go with the Vostro as it will be cheaper then the XPS but offer similar performance.

It really boils down to this:

Vostro:

Better support
Spill Proof Keyboard

Inspiron:

Cheapest

XPS:

Best combo of everything, but most expensive. It's unfortunate the M1530 has such a lousy screen resolution, or it'd be an excellent laptop. They are planning to add better screens some time next year, which is when I'll probably pick one up.

You should also keep in mind the XPS series is really flashy. This might be a poor choice if you are concerned about theft.
