Intel has primarily moved back to socket with FC-PGA CPUs. The slots are just too expensive in comparison. AMD is probably thinking along the same lines.
I think that Sockets will be the future for a while, I guess that the good side about sockets is that they are marginally cheeper, but that is the only pro that i can think of
