Though I'd imagine that jobs pay more there.

Some of this information isn't correct. It states that housing index in my town (Danbury, CT) is 84. I know for a fact that housing in my town is a lot more expensive that national average. Just for comparison, you should expect to pay over $200,000 for a cheapest 2 bedroom condo.
