Well I am getting my X1000 today.

I already have a Dell Latitude D800 (amazing laptop).

My Dell D800:

Pentium M 1.7Ghz
Intel 855PM (with wireless lan)
1GB PC2100 DDR
60GB Hitachi 7200 RPMs 8megs Cache (partitioned to Drive C and Drive D with 30GB each)
Geforce 4 TI 4200 GO 64megs (gets about 10032 3DMarks in 3DMark 2001 SE)
15.4" WUXGA (just amazing)
WinXP Pro
3 Years warranty

My wife's X1000

Pentium M 1.6Ghz
Intel 855PM (with wireless lan)
512megs PC2100 (Compaq only gives 2 x 256megs but I wanted 1x512megs)
60GB 5400 Rpms (Partitioned to Drive C and Drive D with 30GB each)
ATI Radeon 9200 64megs (I tested at the store and it only got 7530 3DMarks in 3DMark 2001 SE)
15.4" WSXGA (amazing)
WinXP Pro
3 Years warranty (had to pay $200 for the extra 2 years)


Dell offered me about $400 discount but Compaq only offered $150 discount.

D800 is a good desktop replacement for me for my work and also for games.

My wife will like the X1000 since it is lighter. She doesn't play games.

Well I ordered the 40GB hard disk but dell offered a free upgrade to 60GB 4200 RPms.

It is okay as I planned to sell it anyway and the 60GB is worth more than the 40GB hard disk. I sold the 60GB 4200 RPms to a local store and paid extra for the 60GB 7200 RPms. It was money well spent.

The new Keyboard design on the D800 is better than the previous revision. No heat issues also on the latest D800 design.

I am so happy with my D800. Not to forget that I may be the only one in Hong Kong to own a Pentium M 1.7Ghz Centrino. I know I was the first in Hong Kong to get the 7200 RPms drive because as soon as the distributor got stock, I bought the first piece when it was released.

Despite what the Compaq website says, the drive is 24x10x24. Best Buy, Amazon, Laptop magazine, and well, my brother who has a x1000 has confirmed it.

It's definitely 24x10x24. I just burned a cd with it. 🙂 The drive is a Teac DW-224E.

 
so what are you waiting ppl? post some benchmarks of that x1000 you have 😉

maybe some 3dmark 2001 & 2003 along with the specs of your x1000 and if not too much trouble some comments about it: if you found some problem, if the keyboard is good, if the monitor has burn-in problems, if the monitor has good quality.... i need some feedback to make some choices 😉

is anyone else's notebook delayed in indianapolis due to "regulatory agency clearance delay" when you track it on fedex? this is pissing me off big time.

It looks good, the only thing I wonder is why the do not offer a/b, a/bg/, or b/g combos. I have dealt with extremely poor HP experience and a poor one with Dell as well. 1600x1280 solution option would push me slightly away from purchasing the D800. There is a bit more flexibility with the d800 than the x1000/x7000. More usage reviews and changes at HP are needed before I give the d800 the axe.
 
Death to Compaq!!! I returned my well-working Dell 8500 after ordering the x1000. First indication of trouble or failure: waking up from sleep mode the display did very "funny" things. Completely unreadable. Second indication of trouble or failure: on reboot, before the bios screen appeared, computer turned itself off. Now all it does when I press the power button is come on for a second or two and then turn off.

I had the 2701US model and had trouble with the DVD and the floppy. I figured that I would give Compaq the benefit of the doubt. Now this....

That is two Compaq laptops I've owned and both had problems. I've owned two Dells and had no problems. I guess my market research has revealed to me what not to buy.
 
where is everyone getting these 10 percent off coupons? I've look all over the place and still have yet to find one.
