Compaq V6000T Memory Upgrade

Hi all. Ive got a Compaq/HP V6000T notebook with an Intel 945GM chipset and core 2 duo 7200 (2 ghz, 4mb L2) notebook. Everything I find on the HP web site says this system is limited to 2gb of ram (yes I have already checked the manual). But the 945 series chipset and this cpu should be able to support more. 2 GB DDR2 modules are so cheap I was thinking of getting two and upgrading to 4 GB. Anyone tried this or know if it will work?

thanks

Sorry but the documentation doesn't lie. The limit is 2GB. The 945 Mobile chipset and the regular 945 chipset are different so your are limited to 2Gb.

Hmmm. New information. One of the systems I use at work is a Dell Latitude 620 notebook that also has, according to the Dell website, a "Intel 945GM" chipset. But Dell lists the maximum memory for that system as 4 GB see http://support.dell.com/suppor...UG/specs.htm#wp1058978

Since the Dell has the same internals as mine as far as chipset goes, I wonder why the 2 GB limit?

Any other opinions? Also Intel says the 945 GM chipset supports a max RAM of 4GB.

See: http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=22816

I have a Dell with the same chipset. The Dell site says 2GB, but I went ahead and put 4GB in the laptop. It recognized it fine, except with a 32bit version of windows Vista that I run it only uses 3.2 or 3.3 gig of the memory. I can't remember exactly, but it won't use all that is available. It might have helped games a little bit, but it was not a huge leap in performance for me. Unless you use the laptop for more that surfing/email etc I doubt you will notice much of a difference from 2GB.

Drat...its not that I particularly needed more memory, but I was browsing around newegg yesterday and saw this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820148201 . I also have 64 bit Vista Enterprise available via a volume license. So I figured for less than $40.00 why not? Then I figured I better find out if I could actually use it before ordering. Oh well. No great loss I suppose.

You do know that the volume licenses for Vista enterprise have to "call home" every 30-60 days.
