I cant seem to find any reviews specifically on the Compaq V2312 (AMD 64), so are the reviews of the V2000 (Intel) somewhat the same? thxs

When you say AMD64, do you mean Turion 64?
Regardless, the V2000 series AMD is the same chassis as the V2000 Intel.

What do you want to know?

Yes sorry, the AMD Turion 64. I just want to know that I am getting a quality box. By quality I mean something that is upgradable in the future (cpu/mem/vid/hdd), has wireless capabilities already, and has a good battery life >3 hrs. If the review from laptoplogic on the v2000 is anything comparable, then the v2312 is my box.

Well most laptops allow for upgrading of the CPU/mem/and hdd. It may be a little difficult, but on most you can do it, assuming you get a CPU that works with your laptops chipset. The video on the other hand is not likely to be a user upgradable option. I know there are a couple laptops that allow video upgrades. But those are from the expensive guys like alienware, and even then I think you have to send it in to them, I don't think they let you do it yourself.

Thats fine then, just wanted to make sure that in the future I would be able to upgrade the CPU and HDD, and eventually the mem if I really wanted.

Memory and HDD are guaranteed.

CPU is more iffy. You can almost definitely PHYSICALLY swap CPU's, but its a matter of the BIOS supporting them. I would say as of right now you're fine if you drop in an existing Turion that HP offers in their notebooks. Like the ML-37 or whatever, maybe even the new ML-40 2.2GHz
