i just ordered my first laptop for a great price within my budget but would like to up my ram by adding another 256mb stick. i want to order the ram soon so that i get it when i receive my laptop.

any ideas on which ram should i get and what kind? i've tried to look for an online manual for this laptop but couldnt find what i was looking for. maybe some experienced compaq users could help me out on this. thanks.

I like to stick with Kingston, since their memory is lifetime guaranteed without any hassle. BTW, I would get a 512 stick if you only got 256 now. Winxp can get really memory hungry and disk thrashing may occur with only 512 total.

thanks...i was thinking kingston also, but what i meant to say was should i get pc2100, pc2700...i'm not sure which type of ram compaq supplies the computer with from the factory...

on another note, i noticed that my laptop was being shipped from Anchorage, Alaska. Thought that was kinda interesting, but odd. At least keeps the parts cool.

This laptop uses PC2700 cas 2.5 200pin sodimms, its a fairly common standard of laptop memory you should be able to purchase it at most e-tailers

I'd go with any major brand name, kingston is good, as is crucial, corsair, etc... I just ordered a 1gb sodimm (pc2700) for my powerbook from newegg.com for $201 shipped... if you have the money I'd definitely recomend it. It's kingmax branded and it works flawlessly.

Shameless plug... I do have an extra 256mb sodimm (pc2700) that was in my PB for the last 2 weeks. It works flawlessly but I had to swap it out for the 1gb stick. If you're interested e-mail me with an offer (cjb266 (at) psu (dot) edu).
