I also feel ripped off with the $40 shipping fee. I can accept the delay in manufacturing but for $40 I expect a 2nd-day delivery instead of a 7-day ground shipment.

I ordered on the 20th and it was delivered today. Already regret not getting the larger battery, but very happy with the purchase.

I've already sent in the OD rebates and I'm getting ready to send in the 2 HP rebates.

Question: Do I need to send the orig UPC from both the notebook and printer with the printer rebate (offer#PUTV278)?

Yeah you need to send the original UPC bar code from printer, but i am not sure about the laptop yet i will find out tonight. Read the instructions on the side of the forms carefully before sending any rebates.

Ground shipping from China in 7 days Yeah! I know what you mean, just sounds kind of funny. I got some shipping information today, which is business day 9. 2 tracking numbers, one to Indy, the other to me in Oklahoma. Estimated delivery of 7th sep. I am confused by this. I guess one is to the US, then the other is to me in Oklahoma. I thought Fedex's big operation was in Memphis. I don't know if they don't do international stuff there or not.
On the other had the CSR at OD told me that was just an estimate and that it would show up faster than that. Oh yeah, I believe that one...........

I got my laptop today and i would love to tell every body that it is a beauty. It is light weight, beautifull wide screen, and for every bodies information the BESTBUY's free memory works flawlessly in this machine, i did not do some tests but i will post it by tommorrow damn school & work.

I checked the tracking info, my laptop is in Alaska! Getting closer. Anyway, I saw some posts about the rebates being sent after the laptop showed up, the HP ones had to have the SN off the laptop and printer. but 3 of the others did not, I sent them out right away. I got an email saying that one of them has been approved, before the lappy even gets here!

How do you like the screen? I am kind of undecided about the truebright screens or whatever they call them. They seem like they pick up reflections from lights behind them. I have always had tft screens. Just curious. My Acer had a tft and was the same resolution but a 13 inch screen. I am getting a little older and the screen would hurt my eyes a little, I am just curious how you like the screen.

I think I am going to order one from HP.. I can get one with bluetooth, 256mb, since i allready have the 512 from bb, 40gb hd, I allready have a 40gb 5400 i will swap out. that will work.. all for 775. I know it seems like a lot, but its not that bad unless some big rebate comes through in the next few days. there is one on ebay that would be $710 on ebay after shipping but it doesnt come with bluetooth and its not much more to get it brand new from them. what do you guys thing?

If it were me alphafox, I would wait.
I almost pulled the trigger on a Dell 700m about a week before this deal came out and for close to $800 (+ shipping?) you're getting a barebones machine...granted you already have some upgrades, but still...I dunno.

Also can confirm the PC 2700 Kingston RAM from BB seems to work fine in this machine. Although to be honest I'm not exactly sure where to check what speed it's running at, but it's working regardless.

Well to be honest i love the screen, i know they say it is bright and it will give you reflections but every new laptop from every vendor is coming with this screen and it looks really nice plus if you wanna watch movies and graphics you should choose this screen.
But in the end it all depend on your taste, but i loved the screen and if you are buying something new you wanna be with new technology and trend
Ok here is the update on the laptop this baby rocks, i loved the material i loved the AMD Turion64 ML 30.
For the memory issues i have been reading on different forms and from different peoples about this laptop is no problem with me. I just took out the 256MB comes with it and installed a pair of KBYTE memory PC2700, 2 X 512MB = 1gb (got from bestbuy free) into it and it worked fine and it is running on the the best speed 333mhz.
I just wanna let every body know if you are upgrading memory and you are having problem with the memory speeds try using the same sticks.
CPU-Z shows it is running at 800mhz which was with out load, and it has SSE,SSE2,SSE3, 3D all new steppings from AMD and memory controller issue is solved.
I did not tried to overclock the memory but i might try to bump up the speed upto 400mhz from 333mhz.

I think I will order a barebones one from ebay, one went for $610 the other day with 512 as the only option. as long as it has a turion, im all set. I have the hard drive and ram for it allready, and honestly I cant see spending $150 more just to have bluetooth and some card reader slots. I am watching one now that is just the base model with a 28 turion, 256, 40 gb and dvd only drive and hopefully that will go for under $600. then I can upgrade it myself, weee!!

BTW, some of the models say 32MB video memory and some say 128 shared memory. I believe they all have 32mb with the option to share up to 128, am I correct on this? thanks

Ah, some retard allready pushed the price over $600, its not even worth it now. I think I will just go to CC after work and get that compaq, if they still have it. they only have 1 and I told them to hold it but they can only hold it for 2 hour segents...??? so it may not be there, how ghey

Great! My laptop is supposed to arrive on 9/7 next Wed but it arrived this morning. So far I am quite satisfied with it. The BrightView screen is indeed very nice. Now it is time to send in the rebate requests.

BTW, guys. Just a plea for those who are suffering in the Katrina disaster. Besides spending time here, consider offering whatever help you can to those who desperately need it also.

Need some advice guys !!

When I ordered my my laptop, I had selected 1 X 512MB (so as to leave the other slot open for future ram addition). When I recieved it and checked out the baic specs, the Wndows utility shows ONLY 384 MB RAM.

Did anyone else encounter this as well & could you guys help me out on this one

Mine was delivered today as well. Supposed to be on the 7th. So far I am fairly impressed. Of course I don't care for some of the Compaq installed software, out with Norton, went to get AVG, etc
Then I went to BB and checked to see if they would honor the coupon for the 90 off memory and installation. I talked to the manager, he said "yeah thats what we are doing". They did not have any memory left (wonder why) and I will check back and get my 1G.
So far I love the screen, no eye strain that I can tell so far.........
Oh on another wierd note, my printer did not show up yet???? I would have thought that would have shown up first! Go figure.

I did a clean reload as soon as I got mine. also, update the video driver from ati's site, my 3d mark 2001 went from 2670 to 2730. not too bad for a driver update. also, I noticed something weired about the ram, it doesnt seem to be running at 166mhz, its running at 133. I changed it with this utility called a64tweaker and my 3dmark went to 3250!!! the ram definately is running at 133 and not full speed. I was playing battlefield 2 for about 20 minutes and it froze on me and rebooted, Im not sure if that was one of the sicks of ram in there or a heat issue of some sort, but definately something to look into.

Alpafox, how did you do a clean install? I have not messed with the software that it came with. Is the disk they sent a rescue disk or an xp home disk branded with Compaqs name? I would love to do a clean install, but I don't have a retail copy of xp home. Do you have a link or site to get the a64 tweeker?

I ended up getting mine from CC... it was abou the same price as ebay and I got a DVD burner in this one as well as not having to wait for it! to do a clean install I just put in my xp pro CD and reformatted the drve and loaded xp. I put in a different hard drive as well as the stock 60gb drive was only 4200 rpm with 2mb cache and I had one in my existing lappy that was 40gb 5400rpm with 8mb. to find the a64tweaker just google it and its the 1st link. see what yours is set at for memory speed, mine says 133 but im using 2 sticks of 512 that I got at BB for free.
