Looks like a pretty sweet deal for a widescreen laptop, but only has the ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) 9000 IGP for graphics...and a celeron, so I dunno how it would perform. Anyone have thoughts on this machine, like battery life? Looks like it's also a little hefty at 8 pounds according to the compaq website, depending on what you have it spec'd out as.

A little bump for this, I'm not sure why there isn't much interest with this laptop. Is the celeron really that bad? Looks like the deal is still good...not sure if any other coupons are floating around out there that would be usable in this deal. It could use a few upgrades, but it seems pretty capable...

You may want to change the topic because according to Staples shipping is not free for configurable computers.

If you go to the link in my original post, it shows $0 shipping for this.

As for performance, it's not designed to be a gaming machine. Then again, laptops aren't really meant for gaming either. But as a laptop for students or everyday business use, it's more than adequate. All you need to do is bump the RAM up a bit.

Battery life should be your standard 3-4 hours.

You can also up the processor to a Pentium 4 @ 2.4GHz for $100 more if you don't like Celerons. Not that they're terrible.

I'd also upgrade to a DVD/CD-RW drive as well for $100. That way you can do back-ups and such.

I'm definitely going to tell my friend who's looking for a laptop for college.

Thanks!
