Newegg is having a Gateway 14" laptop with the same specs and price with free shipping:

It's a smaller screen, and you'll be at the mercy of Gateway's support, which I've always found to be attrocious, at best. The first thing they always want to do is sell you some added "service."

My experiences helping friends with Gateway products are the antithesis of my experiences with HP tech support. I give any gateway product a definite  on general principles.

Its been years - decades- since I've called tech support for anything except repair work under warranty.

Irrelevant. Unless you know the machine you buy will work flawlessly forever and ever, you're better off with a company that provides good support. HP won't give you free telephone support for machines that are out of warranty. but they have given me free support through their online chat system for such machines. OTOH, just trying to navigate Gateway's site to useful info is torture, and getting even basic info from a tech about where to find info on their site is like pulling teeth... but they WILL try to sell you an aftermarket support contract.

Almost all of at least the lower priced laptops are built in the orient by the same few companies, differing only by brand specific details. If you're going to get the same hardware from most companies, you'll be better off with the ones that treat you well and want to keep your business. Gateway lost mine, along with my respect, years ago.

Meanwhile, if you need a machine like this, now, get it, and wait for a special on 2 x 2 GB of RAM.
This won't give you a 64-bit OS though.

It's really neat that the CQ60 (and HP G60) have numpads. All widescreen laptops should offer this...

I received the CQ60-420us a couple weeks ago and have been refused upgrade to windows 7. i bought the machine because of upgrade. can someone pleeease tell me how they got the upgrade?

also, i'd love to strip it to xp or dual boot. has anyone done that? is there a central location i could get the drivers if i have to reformat?
