what about those AMD chips are they mobiles or just nl chips
if normal, i bet they create a lot of heat

the dell warranty is worth something
im torn between the the compaq and the dell

i wonder how long i have to decide since i bet they will soon stop shipping the dell 8100 series

D

i think that if money is an issue, buy the Dell and deal with the weight. if you can afford it, get the Compaq 🙂

Also, remember that they are the same price initially, and you have to wait a while to get that $300 rebate from Dell.

how much better is sxga over xga and how about ultra xga like on the dell deal
is that better or just different wording
is it worth getting the 1.6 from costco just for the sxga

Here is a link that explains the different resolutions of laptop monitors. This seems like a great deal. I don't get why some of you are making such a big deal about the fact it doesn't have a firewire port. It has USB 2.0 which is the connection of the future. That definately would not ever prevent me from buying this laptop. The only thing that is stopping me is being about $1400 short in the money department. 🙂

You obviously don't have a DV cam and don't do any video editing. If editing is intended to be a primary use of your laptop then no firewire means you're SOL and this is an expensive brick.

PCMCIA firewire cards can be bought for $35. So this shoudn't be an issue.

$26 here 😀 So, yeah, it shouldn't be an issue....

Only reason I'm holding out is because of the next generation of laptops coming out this year (where the keyboard folds underneath the screen to use as a touchpad!!!). Plus the screens are able to rotate and turn. And I'm broke too - LOL

That's sort of my point. When you throw down $1600+, don't you think they could include a port that probably only costs them a few bucks? And personally, I plan on throwing in an Orinoco card in that slot. The oddest thing is, the 2700 does have an IEEE 1394 Digital Video port.

It's otherwise a great deal.

To me it boils down to "you get what you pay for" $1100 you get a P3 and a 16mb Geforce2Go with 8.6lbs, $1400 you get a P4 with a Radeon 7500 at 5.7lbs. So you make the shot! BTW can I borrow some money from one of you all 😉

Unless you have eagle's vision (super man eye sight) sxga is easier on the eyes than UXGA.

I have read some complaints in the Dell i8100 thread that the Compaq's keyboard sucks.

On the other hand with the CostCo deal you can OWN the laptop today and if anything ever goes wrong with it, CostCo has a very liberal return policy.

OK I ordered one of these, the lowest 2800 model... the site says it will take up to 21 days to receive this and I called to confirm it and the CSR said that yea it may be as long as 21 days... Anybody order one of these and get one yet?
