Great deal. I like that 15" screen, no tax, and free ship.

Too bad there is no free shipping to CA.
For TN- Don't know what a "notebook" is.
For UT - They are not allowed there.
For WI - Too drunk to use one.

Just make sure the coupon for this doesn't require the original UPC because the $100 rebate from Compaq should also require the original UPC symbol. If you can't get the floppy for free, then spend $49 towards your wireless networking gear and use the floppy drive on your base PC if you need floppy access.

Better deal to be had next week (Jan 19) at Staples:

$999 for 2102US
+1 something to get over $1000
-100 100/1000 coupon (check your chubby back pocket for the code)
-100 Compaq rebate
-150 Staples rebate on any computer (except BTO)
====
$650
Plus tax of course

And you can still probably get the free floppy drive (I haven't read all the rebate forms, but if you can use both the compaq rebate and free floppy rebate when you buy from them, you should be able to here too, since they're not vendor specific)

dboy,

Is this deal going to be B&M only, or will it include on-line?

Also, the $100 Compaq rebate, and the 100 off 1000 are easily found. But I found no reference to the $150 Staples rebate on their website. Is that something new as well?

Thanks for the heads up on a screaming deal. (my girlfriend just started nursing school and really needs a laptop)

edit: I picked up on the Jan 19 reference. Note the usage of future tense "going to be" and "will". Not a bad price without the extra $150 Staples rebate, but a killer deal if it's included. Still can't find it though.

Notice I said "Jan 19" - this deal is for NEXT WEEK - I got it out of the Staples ad for next week (check instorespecials.staples.com for the ad). They're advertising the HP 4120 I think it is for 750 after rebates. I was looking into that one (using the 100/1000 coupon of course) and found this Compaq instead. Same price, same rebates, but it's 100 mhz faster and a bigger screen. I'm gonna check out the store and take a look at them both. My parents want a laptop, so I've been keeping my eyes out.

To actually answer your question though, I would assume it's online too (since it's in their ad) but can't be sure. The staples rebate should appear Sunday as well.

edit: Sorry there, I didn't catch the future tense in your post. My bad! Too used to people not reading and asking "where's the rebate, why is the price different" etc because they don't look at the dates :)

So are we reading the add to mean there is $150 rebate on ALL notebooks -- not just the HP in teh AD ?

I think a better statement for TN would be the nearly 10% sale tax, so nothing involving tax is a hot deal.

I just check the staples rebates section and there are no $150 rebate right now. They all expired.

Valid Purchase Dates: 12-15-2002 through 12-21-2002

I'm finding the $999 price by looking at Staples.com right now, where item 502130 is listed at 999. I'm assuming that will be the same next week - that's given as the regular, not sale price.

I'm also assuming that the $150 from staples is good on any pre-built laptop. Page 3 of next week's ad says "Save 150 on desktop or notebook PCs." The fine print says it's not good on built-to-order, but otherwise sounds like it's good on any desktop or laptop.

Assuming all my assumptions are right (which they seem to be, I don't think I'm making any huge leaps here), then my deal should work come Sunday.

hapahaole: You're looking at a different model. The 2101US I'm using isn't in the ad, I found it on staples.com. Yours is faster, but smaller screen.

Not all staples locations offer the same deals. Even from city to city in the same state sometimes they vary

Page 3 for my store Burbank (LA area) has nothing about a $150 rebate and has the 2102 in the ad. But the Staples ad for Muncie, Indiana (for example) has the heading that says "Save $150 on desktop or notebook PCs after mail-in rebate" and has HP laptops in the ad.

Keep looking on the Staples rebate site as Sunday comes around I guess. I'd be all over the 2101us for $650 so I know I'll keep an eye out.

BTW, anyone have an idea about how long the battery life on a 2101 is?

Yo dboy!!

Thanks for the head's up about this deal. My local Staples ad didn't mention the $150 rebate, but somebody else posted a link to it in another thread. I ordered it yesterday, after my girlfriend commandeered by laptop all damned day to do her homework.

Search by manufacturer for Staples on staplesrebates.com and look near the bottom of the page.

This is true. Read both rebate forms, they BOTH ask for the original UPC. The floppy offer says it is combinable, however when you call the Compaq rebate center they dont' know what to do about both wanting the original UPC. The response is "Oh well you will have to contact Young America to see how to do it." Okay, since their contact info is not listed anywhere, do you have any contact info for them? "No, sorry."

Ridiculous.
