ecost.com - be careful, some resellerratings mention a 'hidden' 7% handling charge, even with free shipping. Also, their cust service is pretty spotty. Of course, CDW does not pricematch (I just tried). Price at ecost.com is for real. (I just verified - and yes, I know, I might have blown the deal, but my P910 just shipped from CDW today and I wanted to verify price at ecost before I tried to PM at CDW)...

Wow, even at $199 this is a pretty hot deal. That is - assuming this monitor is truly flat, and not just a big heavy glass screen covering a spherical CRT. If I didn't already have a 19" monitor, I'd get in on this.

<< Mmmm.... 3200 x 1200 resolution >>

Where do you see this?
>>

In my post I also said

<< I need a second 19 incher. >>

I thought that people would be able to figure out that the resolution would be the combined total, aparently not.

Too bad the price when up to 199, I checked the price while I was at school and now when I got home it went up. Awhh well, maybe next time

Thanks for the excellent post troniq!
That was a hot deal, I got in at the 148 price. :)
And there was a 7.95 handling charge, you gotta pay for them to thrash your monitor around a bit before they send it.

<< I found another review: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/guest/printreview_v3-1.php3?id=36524

Is there anyone has this monitor, why not give us a short review?
>>

Got mine yesterday from CDW, they got a huge shipment in on Tues/Weds, shipped out Weds am, arrived Weds pm (fedex ground - Ill to SE MN)!
The same warranty terms apply for CDW, ie., Compaq does not want you to deal with CDW if the monitor is defective (unless it is damaged when shipped). There is a 3 year, parts and labor, onsite or next day replacement policy warranty - nice customer service from Compaq.

This is definitely a flat screen, nice looking monitor. My other 19in is a Samsung 950p which I also think is a very good monitor. I'd say the P910 is a step above the 950p, especially at the CDW price (approx $240, shipped). Good control set, although navigating the menu is a bit awkward. Haven't done much A/B comparison with the SamSung - although Comanche4 looked nicer!
I'd stick with CDW - support is better and more accessible. Total cost is now cheaper...just my 2 cents.

How about an update! Do you still feel the P910 is nicer?

Yes, I think the P910 is nicer. It's definitely flatter than the Samsung 950p. Text is slightly better. Color a bit better.
Smaller footprint. Don't get me wrong, I think the 950p is a great monitor. The P910 is just a step above the 950p - not a huge step, but better nonetheless.

Let me put it this way. If I could still get a Samsung 950p and it was the same price as the Compaq P910, i'd buy the Compaq. I definitely would pay $25 more for the Compaq which is about the price differential I paid bewteen the Samsung 950p (2 years ago) and the Compaq P910.

I picked up one of these from CDW for a dual set up, got it yesterday. Not very happy with the QC. Cabinet was blemished, had some red like gum or gunk on the side, finger smudges on the glass, and it was made in June 2001. All this leads me to believe they may be selling refurbs as new. I am still contemplating whether to call and complain to CDW. The display itself is nice. Very good text quality. Bottom right is a little dark (brownish) but otherwise a really nice display. Menu is a pain to navigate mainly since there is no back function

everyone else who has got one recently, when was yours made?

Got mine from eCost.com, it was brand new. Came in a compaq box, sealed with Compaq tape. All accessories were still sealed and all, I believe it's brand new. I called after I ordered as well (after price went up), was told they were NEW. Manf. Date was June 2001 on mine as well, but the warranty should begin at date of purchase. Also, I don't think that a refurb would have a 3yr. warranty. Just my $.02..

BTW, I love this monitor! The color is nice, text is crisp, overall it's beautiful. The menu isn't to bad, I've seen worse. The lacking back button is a PITA though... oh well, still 100% worth it...

Got mine today, from ecost.com 221.67 shipped, compaq box sealed with compaq tape, looks brand new.
Made July 2001, very nice monitor but it's a bit bigger than my old envision 19 in.
Text is sharper, no prob with the controls, color is great.
Im very happy with this monitor, thanks again troniq for posting this deal!

<< I have been holding out for a good 21" but this is making me think twice.... >>

after all...you could pretty much get three of these for the price of a sony 21" shipped! $400 = great deal for two monitors on dual display cards.

EDIT - ah, just noticed the new price...oh well, still a nice deal!

I got in on the MV/FS740 compaq 17" monitors for basically $25 after rebate a few weeks back. Even with this tiny screen, it looks a ton better than my dead and dying 20" used hitachi.

well, nevermind about the dark spot. I didn't know this monitor had color purity adjustment for each corner, so that corrected it. Yippee

Refurbed Hitachi monitors for $229

they supposedly have very good resellerratings and someone has checked out their BBB, all seems ok. they are in san diego, so i hope they allow pickups.
