Be aware that this is only available by ordering at a retail OD store and you have to pay shipping which is usually around $40 but could be more. You will also have to pay taxes (if you live in a tax state) on the $135 that you'll get back in rebate. Item is on the front page of their 2/10 ad which is available for viewing online.

add atleast $100-115 for shipping, plus a waiting period of 2-3 weeks for the laptop according to SD. This was also posted yesterday on SD

$100+ on 2-3 week shipping? What kinda rip is that?!? I've ordered full desktops with a CRT monitor in the past, gotten it in 3 days and paid less than 1/2 that in shipping.

SD has suggestions of shipping prices ranging from a low of $20 to a high of $115 (but the $115 includes tax) so it doesn't seem as if they know any more over there than here. Same for FW, although one guy called his store in MI and was told $50 or less. I guess we'll find out the actual prices tomorrow.

I passed up BB's Gateway $499.00 deal I thought that was sweet. (SKU: 8651041 T2330, 2 gig, 160gig X3100 graph)
I'll have a look.
I bet tax season will raise prices soon

yeah i have read some conflicting things, if you need a laptop this is a good deal if shipping is less than 100.

435 + tax (30) + ship (50) - 135MIR = 380 still hot for a laptop

Please read the forum rules before you post again. That type of comment is not necessary... if you don't like the price, don't buy the product.

What about COURTESY?

No thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread.

Possibly the worst examples we have had of this have been in posts for free religious items, such as bibles, etc. If you want to discuss religion, or any other such non-computer topic, do it in our Off Topic forum. The discussions in that forum cover a wide range of topics, but needless flaming and rude, mean-spirited posts are not welcome there, either.

Stick to discussing the deal. Do not post needless rude or trivial comments about someone else's posts. Flaming can only hurt someone's feelings. Nuisance posts, such as "In before the lock," "******" or other needless bumps just recycle bad threads and force good ones off the first page of the forum.

Think before you post. Rude posts can kill a good deal. For example, posts for deals on sexually related items such as condoms and lubricants are ok, but if others cannot refrain from posting lewd or childish remarks, that would be reason to lock or delete the thread.

I can confirm the $80 shipping cost.

And from what both of my local Office Depots say, NONE of the stores carry these in stock.
They must be ordered, which they say take 10-12 business days, and you must pay the rediculous shipping cost

Amazingly enough, that's why I said in the original post "this is only available by ordering at a retail OD store." :D

Ugh its a Compaq :p The $400 BB Toshiba laptops are normally a better deal. They're in-store, only tax, no shipping charges and overall a better quality of laptop.

Well I just went to OD and bought one, we've been needing one for a youth group for some time.

I can confirm the $80 dollar shipping, because apparently it's 'coming from China.' I wanted to ask them if they paid $80 dollars to get a laptop from China!

My specs were Identical to the OP but I changed to Vista Home Premium for $25 more.

They had the price breakdown weird, not just the shipping, such as $1.00 for the LCD, $34 for the CPU, $200(!) for the ram, etc.

Long story short this $299 notebook cost me $581 OTD. After MIR it will be ~$450. Is it still hot? I guess you be the judge. I feel a little taken, with that shipping and all. One final question:

I believe these CPU's are renamed Core Duo's, does anybody know if C2D's can work in this? THANKS
