I take no credit for finding this - ripped from Techbargains.com. Not even the folks over at FW have posted this in their forums as of now. This is HOT! Was going to build another PC, but at this price might buy this one.

Compaq SR1000Z Desktop XP2500+ (XP 3200+ add $90)
Free 256MB PC2700
Free 80GB
48x CD
5.1 sound
MS Works 7, MS-Money, XP Home
Integrated Graphics (I believe this has VIA chipset with AGP - list several AGP video card upgrades)
Free Shipping
Tax in CA & TN
$50 MIR (not too much money tied up)
$10 off $50 Coupon (You'll have to find the coupon #)

How to get to it (again ripped from techbargains)
Select Desktops > Compaq Presario PCs > SR1000Z Series
Customize = XP 2500+, Free upgrade 128MB to 256MB, Free upgrade to 80GB, 48x CD, No secondary drive, 2 USB 2.0 ports, No floppy, No monitor, Integrated graphics, No speakers.

Good Luck,
Dennis

For comparative purposes, users may want to view this particular offering currently from Radio Shack, if available in one's area. Appears to offer a bit more feature-wise, at nearly the same pricepoint.

I agree - bottom line is a little more $$$ for a better equipped system. Two things however:

$200 MIR
Tax

With all the hassles rebates cause up, I'd prefer to only tie up $50 instead of #200. Tax of say 8% on $600 is about $48.

If the rebates weren't so much I'd probably pay the extra $$$. But some of us scratching at the bottom line this system would cost less initially.

I just got the Radio Shack deal but for $289(+tax) AR, not the $349. I just signed up for a Radio Shack credit card and they gave me 10% off ($60) and also gave me 90 days no interest no paymewnts (maybe enough time for the rebates to arrive. Here's the deal:

$599.99 - $60 (10%) - $200 (MIR) - $50 (MIR) = $289.99 + tax on $600

Compared to the system listed in this thread, it's got:

XP3000+ (not 2500)
DVD drive
CDRW (vs CD?)
5 USB 2.0 ports , 1 in front (vs. 2)
Firewire (front & rear)
floppy drive
7-in-1 mem card reader (not sure about the other system)
AGP slot (not sure about the other).

It is more tied up in rebates, but I think it has a lot of other advantges...

RajunCajun? We must have gone to the same university :)

I myself don't like to be tied up in rebates. Will have to think hard about this one. Thanks op!

Compaq has a back to school rebate-$50 if you buy select monitors, $50 if you buy select computer, $100 if you buy both a monitor and a computer. Link is on the RadioShack page.
