compaq deskpro en 6350 - cpu upgrade

hi,

i have this deskpro en6350, running a p2 350 processor.
I have a p3 500 processor, and the jumper marking on the m/b mention upto 500 mhz.
Works fine, but after a while, i get errors when launching IE or acrobat reader. It says, ieplore.exe is not a valid application, acroread.exe is not a valid executable etc.....

does not freeze or restart.?

the p3 500 is there with its retail heat sink and fan.
any help?

Can't help but have the same rig, got one for free yesterday, I was wondering what the possibility of a slotket and a Celeron 1.4 working in this would be??

In researching this though I have seen on compaqs forums were people have used up to a PIII 550 and some using PIII 1GHZ without trouble. I don't think the CPU is causing that problem.

im thinking its windows problem. did you reinstall windows after you put in the new CPU? if not, that may be the problem

try and get a full windows cd and reinstall and see what happens
