I'm a full-time student. I'm graduating from a community college in May, with an associates.
My company is going out of business within the month. I worked at an ISP and basically did everything: technical support, billing, helped with servers, etc. I've worked in this field for 5 years, and basically have no expert level experience in anything useful -- mysql, php, apache, unix, bsd. I have general experience with all of it.
Anyway, South Jersey isn't the best place in the world to find a tech job. I've applied to Rutgers, and Stockton State College. Originally I had planned on going to dealer (casino) school, and dealing cards for a casino while finishing up my B.S. But since I got mugged I no longer have the funds to pay for dealer school over the summer (they don't have a payment plan, i checked).
So... What should I do? Move to North Jersey, attend Rutgers... and try to find a tech. job up there. Or, stay down here go to Stockton State College, and ATTEMPT to find a tech. job, but probably end up waiting tables or something until i can get the cash together to go to dealer school.
I've already applied to tons of places through the newspaper, craigslist, casino websites (for tech jobs). I haven't gotten a response yet, so I'm starting to get nervous.
Edit: Just had an interview at a casino for a tech job. they said the job pays 10.25/hr. I make 11.50/hr now. The job title is computer operator. I said match it or I can't take the job. it has benefits, tuition reimbursement. man this area sucks
Cliffs
-------
1) Company is going out of business.
2) I'm graduating with associates in May
3) I'm going to continue my education, and get a B.S.
4) Should I move to find a new job and school?
5) Should I just stay and find a new job?
6) South Jersey sucks.
