Company doesn't call for scheduled phone interview

I was supposed to receive a call from HR for a phone interview in the afternoon but I didn't get any calls. What would you do?

That's right. What was I thinking with my suggestion? Thanks for saving the OP with the correct response, Ns1.

😛

Well I guess I was already 1 step ahead..

Well he asked,

What would you do?

I responded in kind. And it would, in fact, be my exact response. So I guess OP is right on track as far as I'm concerned. 🙂

Would I seem desperate for calling? I don't think I'm that desperate for this job. Under the job description on company's website it says temporary for 1 yr. No way I am willing to relocate and terminate my current stable employment for a temporary assignment. But I was just going to confirm w/ HR on duration of job if they did call..

I'd call them and say you were expecting a call and wanted to make sure they had the right number and that you weren't having phone problems because you never got the call.

In this case, I would just move on. Otherwise, I would call and be like WTF.

I had a phone interview where the person didn't call me, but their secretary called a few hours later to say they had a meeting run over and wanted to reshedule, so maybe give it a few hours at least then call them. I would probably just wait till tommorow morning and call them, its not "deperate" to want to know why you never got the call, it makes perfect sense and anyone with a brain would call the person in question to inquire what happened.

I'd wait until tomorrow and give them a call. Just tell them you thought you had a phone interview scheduled, but never received a call and would like to know if there is a problem with your application or if they would like to reschedule.

It's sad but, the truth of the matter is that the MAJORITY of companies have execrable business practices in regards to hiring.

How many companies have you seen who post a 4 line add online for the position they are trying to fill? How many companies have you sent resumes to in response to their ads and never even got an automated acknowledgment of receipt of your resume? How many companies have you interviewed with who say they'll contact you by a specific time to let you know yes or no, never do? How many companies put you through multiple interviews before making an offer so low as to be ridiculous?

The number of companies who have such poor practices are legion!

Excellent response.

On a more serious note, I'd still do the same thing I do whenever anyone misses a scheduled call. I'd call them, say I thought we had a call for X o'clock, and was wondering what's going on.

It happens. I've had phone interviews that I was scheduled to give that have conflicted with other appointments, or had customer issues that have gone over the time. I've also had phone interviews scheduled that someone has forgotten to put into my calendar, so I never know about it. Don't sweat it, just call back and they'll reschedule.

Or just go ahead and rick roll them.
