My wife hates CFLs because the light flickers compared to an incandescent light. Both of us always noticed this...plus CFLs take about 10 seconds to reach their full brightness. I'm sure these are things that people get used to. The thing that killed me was that fluorescent lights always were a different color than incandescent lights. Soft-white didn't used to be an option, but they finally wised up a year or so ago and started making these...
I went to walmart and picked up some great-value branded CFLs rated at 75 watt equiv ~ 18 watts. I'm putting them in some overhead lights and I've been somewhat impressed by their brightness and color. They're leaps and bounds above the lights I bought just 2 years ago when I was testnig them out. I feel as though CFLs may not be so bad if they stop making standard incandescents....I just wish the price per bulb would come down...despite how much longer they last.
