these things are way better than the buzzy, flickering bulbs i remember using a decade ago. i can't tell the difference between it and an incandescent, pretty much.

i wonder how many bulbs are needed to cover the whole house?

Bought mine off Ebay, can't remember the price. They are Durabright 27watt bulbs (comparable to 100w incans.). Let me tell you, they are definitely bright. I don't notice any flicker. Only thing I do see is that it takes a while for them to brighten up. Seems like they start off at half power and then increase to full strength in around 10 seconds.

all their lights have been made to work with cf's for years now. well cept the little shelf spotlights. so their selection beats normal hardware stores and such for cf's and the lamps/fixtures. esp for the smaller type screw in cf's. 3-15 watt even..use multiple task/ambient lights instead of just one glaring fixture.

I just dont like the color of the light, maybe some brands are better than others but I hate the one we have in our laundry room.

Got mine at costco. Replaced all the lights everywhere, even in the garage (which went well below freezing this winter) but they still all worked fine. Only repalced one light since I bought them at the beginning of last year (the garage one because I hit it with a ladder)

its improved. i notice my newer ikea bulbs look warmer than my old ones. side by side the old one almost looks slightly green or something heh

I like them. When they first came out, they were expensive and it took at least a year to relamp my house. Now they are cheap enough to buy in bulk, and they last a long time. Don't have to worry about turning lights out all the time to save electricity.

They do take a while to get up to full brightness though.

honestly if i didn't know it was a CF bulb in the lamp i would not know.

this is a GE brand bulb, so maybe there is a difference in the brands

i've got a couple of their track lighting fixtures in the kitchen and living room, they use the small screw type. i don't know whether the fixture came with CF bulbs or not though. the room always seems hotter when the light is on, though.

are any CF bulbs made in spotlight form factor?

:Q We need Jerboy!

Home Depot has an 8 pack of the 17W (60W equiv) for $10, and in some states a coupon for $2 off. That's a dollar a bulb, and they last 5x longer than most incandescants, especially in the winter, and they use 1/3 the power.

$$$ in your pocket.

I really don't like the color at all. We've been using them for years, getting new bulbs, etc....but I just can't adjust to them. Has something to I think with the fact that theres no hard shadows....on a blur between black and white. Feels so very synthetic...I like the sun....so I like incandescants still. Ideal light source is a full-spectrum lamp...those are wonderful, they look and feel like the sun.

Anyone else unable to adjust? I guess it'll finally feel different when I'm paying my own bills in a little while...

Not sure about spotlights, but I got dimmable CFL floods at Walmart a few months back. I think they were made by GE.

You can't tell the color difference?

no, but then all my lighting is indirect or shaded anyway, so it picks up the color of the wall or shade.
