Compact Flash vs. Secure Digital

Which one is better?

I heard that, though the price may be higher, SD is a better card overall because it uses a lower voltage than CF and has faster transfer speeds?

Of course, benefits of CF cannot be ignored: rugged unit, cheaper, and has more products that support it.

SD is cuter than CF. 😱

But CF's weight and size make it more pleasing tactilly. You can more easily idly fiddle with a CF card.

CF is also an ATA thingamajig, so if in the future you feel bored and l33t, you can wire it into an IDE cable and use it as a hard drive.

Is SD faster than CF? Because CF has nice, gigantic busses, separate address and data.

I like CF simply for it's durability. I'm not super concerned about transfer speed because honestly...I doubt I'd ever be able to tell the difference.

On my Dell Axim, I use the SD slot for memory and the CF slot for my WiFi card. If it weren't for the WiFi card taking up the CF slot, I'd probably use CF for storage only because it's cheaper.

Ditto on my iPAQ 2215. 512MB Panasonic SD card for storage and D-Link DCF-660W for Wi-Fi

Doesn't SD have controller size constraint issues, whereas CF has the controller built in so the memory size isn't dependent on the device?

Heh, I remember your post over at FW about that SD card from Outpost. BTW, I use that same WiFi CF card. It's a great piece of equipment, and it matches the Axim. 🙂

That about sums it up for me, CF all the way.

Lexar Compact Flash Card 256MB,40X Model CF25640380 - Retail $79 @ newegg.com

Is this a good price? Or does anyone know a better place and/or brand? Or do you really only need 40x for SLR cameras? I'd like to stay away from the $10 CF deal of the day type stuff because I'll be mighty pissed if the card craps out prematurely. My new S400 needs some lovin'. 😀

Yum, a 4GB hard drive/memory card!

I wish all console manufacturers would use CF as a memory card type, anyway.
