For those of you who have digital cameras, here is a compact flash reader that mounts in a 3.5" drive bay and conects to your IDE port (like a cd-rom) for $17. You will also need a PCMCIA adapter for your compact flash. You don't see these around often and this is a good price for one. Shipping at computer-show.com is steep at $5.50 for UPS ground.

Hmmm, I am out of USB ports already, too bad I already have the Sandisk USB reader, this would have been a good alternative. Do you know how fast it is, and does it become another drive letter like the Sandisk?

Here is an alternative, and it shares a USB port, and you can take it with you.

You should be able to find a PCMCIA CF adaptor anywhere for around 12 bucks, SanDisk and Kingston are a good bet.

My SanDisk USB reader has a problem in Win2K and I have the current drivers. I am waiting to see if I can fix it but I really like the idea of the Zio. There are three Zio's, CF, Smart Media and Multimedia Cards that ship with newer Digital Camcorders.

I know the description indicates 'READER', but I am wondering if this unit allows writing to a Flash card as well?

Jugernot, thanks. Regarding writing, are you basing that off experience? Do you own this type of adaptor?

Sawadee:

Just plug it into your IDE port, and your computer will recognize it - same as an IDE CDROM.

Sawadee, does it really works like CD-Rom? Just plug the IDE in and it works? If yes, I going to get one.
BTW, what OS do you use? (I just want to know if it works on Win2k. If it works like CD-Rom, then it should works on Win2k).

Maverick319, I've a SanDisk USB reader too. It works well on w/ Win2k. I downloaded the Win2k driver from ScaDisk website.

Interesting little toy. But I'm hesitant to put it on my ATA 66 cable with my harddrive. I have two cd drives on the secondary IDE channel, and only the HD on the primary. Would there be any problems putting this on the same channel as the HD? It's not going to slow down the HD is it?

perry, it most likely will slow down your HD to just a plain ide. May be a better bet to go buy some cheap ide controller for this reader. Even UDMA33 controllers can be had for next to nothing these days...
