Sometimes, things are way easier to handle when you are NOT stupid. :(

I installed (well, just plugged it in pretty much) a CF reader on Windows XP, the reader showed up as H:\ and everything showed up fine. However, after I foolishly right-click H: and choose eject (yeah, I was wondering why the hell there's an eject option when the eject mechanism is pure mechanical), the annoying "Safe to eject device" icon shows up whenever the CF reader is plugged it, regardless of which mode I chose (Safe Eject and Performance).

I tried looking up entries in the registry but some of those entries are protected and I was unable to delete them. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

That started with ME - and continues in XP. There is a good reason for it - and it is to safely remove hardware that has been "found." When you have a reader w/o media, it does not exist as far as the computer is concerned. When you insert media, it is discoverd and a drive letter is added. If you simply remove it without permission, it will most of the time be OK - but not always. It can cause a problem. So, learn to use it and respect it. It's part of XP.
