comp turning on automatically?

What would be causing this to happen? I'm using win2000, I don't think it happens every morning.. but it does happen sometimes around 12 noon.

There is a setting in the bios to turn on the comp on Modem Ring, and there is also one for Network card, make sure these are diabled, used to have the same problem on different machines, till I figured this out.

Yeah this will likely be it if you have the cables hooked up and another PC sends a packet accross the network or someone calls you....not sure what else could be causing it.

Try unplugging it from the mains and see if it comes on then? 😀😉

more unlikely - check there isnt bare wires that lead to the powerswitch, close enough to contact when they expand in the midday heat. i did say unlikely 😛

Some motherboards are configured by default to turn on the computer if the mouse moves or a key is pressed on the keyboard.

I disabled the wakeup LAN/MODEM/etc, so I think that may have been the culprit.

The only thing is, I don't have a LAN at the moment, this is a single computer but the motherboard does come with onboard LAN but there is no cables connecting to another computer, also I do use a dailup modem which the cable is connected into my PC 24/7. How would that turn on my PC if I use this computer strictly for Internet (second line, no-one should be calling in... I don't even know my second line number!), and have an ISP that dynamically assigns my IP on every connect.

I dont think so think I tried it before when I shutdown windows, but I'll try later to make sure.

Sometimes a spike on the incoming powerline can appear to the computer power supply as a push on the power on button. There may be a heavy load in your area that is starting around noon with a resuling perturbation of your AC power. The only cure in that case would be to unplug or swtich off. I have this exact problem at my workplace that is located in an industrial area. When I had the computer at home there was never a problem.

You can also check to make sure you don't "return to previous state on power failure". It might be that your power is flickering or something (could be as simple as a fridge turning on while connected to the same circuit. Anyway, if your machine turns off, and this is set, it'll turn back on as soon as there is power.

Is the machine on before it reboots?

and the stupid things...make sure it isn't plugged into a timer, and make sure the bios isn't set to turn on everyday at noon 😉
