Comp not posting...

I was the sleeping the other day and woke up to something that smelt kind of like burned rubber. Realized the smell was coming from my pc but it wasn't really strong and it was only around for maybe 30 seconds. Anyhow, i get out of bed and turn my monitor on and move the mouse around a bit to wake up it but nothing happens, the screen just stays black and the monitor light stays amber.
Then I tried to restart the comp with the power switch and the reset switch and neither worked. Holding down the power button for 5 seconds did not work either. So I pulled the cable from the power supply.
Plugged the cable back in and all the fans go on, but no hd spinning, no beeps or noises of any sort and no video.
Turned of the computer and unplugged the power cable, then took a look at the PS to see if it had burned out, but it did not look nor smell it.
I've tried resetting all the cables and cards and memory but nothing works.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what my problem is and how to fix it?

Mmmmm burned rubber.

Does your motherboard have a Power LED on it? If so, does it at least turn on?
Did you find the source of the "smell"?
Do any fans turn?

Honestly, without swapping equipment around, it's hard to say, but my bet is either the mobo or CPU. I have had two PSs die, but those were both my own fault (damn shoddy surge protectors - UPS "fo' lyfe"). Hopefully you have some extra parts (or a friend) so you can verify each piece step by step.

Make sure the outlet isn't bad yadda yadda. (I'm sure you've tried that)

Too many things could be wrong and burning is usually a very bad sign. Hope you weren't overclocking.

I'd just add, take a flash light and look over the MB and through the vents in the PSU and monitor for any signs of obvious damage. Also have you tried clearing CMOS with the PSU unplugged?
