friends computer:
asus p4c800-e deluxe
2.8ghz prescott

After moving his stuff over to this new case, the computer got really laggy. After a reformat and clean install, the system just freezes during windows load screen (the sliding bar). He installed it on another hdd and it loads a little long but still freezes during the load screen. He took out everything cept cpu ram vid card hdd and reseted bios, still not working..

I have no idea what could be wrong. Any help is welcome

Was the system kept isolated from all network connections (wired or wireless) during its build, so it didn't face worm attacks until it was patched and firewalled? Suggested routine.

Short version: firewall before network. Patches and antivirus before network if feasible.

the computer has no access to the internet. It hasn't even completely installed, just finished copying the files into the hdd. It will finish copying the windows files, restart, start to load, then freeze.

thanks for the info

Maybe the PSU can't hack it. If in doubt, try the old PSU.

start over again, reformat the drive. I had this same problem installing XP, I just reformatted again, and it worked.

this might sound weird but its worth a shot, make sure there aren't any marks or scratches on the disk, it might be messing up a file when it copies over....also, are you getting any error messages when it freezes?

Its not the psu. He has a 450 watt antec. I tried it on my 350w antec and enermax.
Reformated several times, even repartitioned/formated to ntfs and fat32. different hdds, different cables, different cds. still nothing.

Been at it for about 3 hours and i'm thinking something on his mobo got screwed up during the transfer. I tried his processor in my computer and it works. things on the motherboard like fine.

strange thing is I tried knoppix(cd bootable linux) and it works. So i'm guessing his mobo or something(primary ide controller?) on it is whack.

I'm having a similar problem here.
After talking to a few people I've got some more ideas. The HD might have developed bad sectors, how I don't know but its a possibity. And another in my case, the bios might need a flash to clean up any problems or conflictions.

I'm at my wits end with my problem. Getting ready to just pay for someone to fix it. Hopefully we can both come to a solution soon.
