Just build my comp 3 weeks ago and i got my first problem today.
I'm writing this down from my old computer becuase i cant from my new computer
I've been using an external US Robotics 56k Voicemodem in the new computer i built and decided to switch to my US Robotics 56 INTERNAL Modem from my old computer because my external wouldnt let calls go through even with *70 off. I thought it was a piece of cake because i already built my comp so i opened up my system and pluged the card in a pci slot, you know the whiet ones that you need to plug your sound card in. Then i turned it on. It didn't detect my "usb logitech mousman wheel 4button" and keyboard so i had to press the button to shut down. Then i had to go to safe mode (this part i dont remember well) I was in safe mode but mouse still wouldnt work even though the keyboard worked so i restarted. Since it was improperly shut down i had to scan the c drive or something and it stoped at %3 and restarted and then it didnt even go to 1% but right after the windows screen it kept restarting. I thought the modem might be cause problems and pull the internal modem out and tried again and same thing happend, it kept restarting after the windows screen. I decided to press exit during the scan but if it went to scan it usually restarted after one percent so i didnt have time, i finally got to hit exit and i went to safe mode. Mouse still wouldnt be detected so i shut down and put my ps2 plug on my usb mouse and it still wouldnt work and made a funny noise after after the windows screen and restarted. I tried my old ps2 serial mouse and same thing, a funny noise and restarting.
The internal modem works because i plugged it back to my old comp and am using it now. The thing that i think might be the problem is the Hardrive but i doubled checked and everthing seems to be plugged right. As soon as i turn the comp up it seems to recognize my HD also because it shows the name and like i said the whole boot up is normal until it tries to load windows and then just restarts. I also dont think it detecting my usb ports now. I hope you nice anandtech guys can help
