Comp keeps restarting!!! NEED HELP!!!!

As the topic summary says I have replaced everything on my computer except my 200 WD Harddrive and my computer will just restart randomly. I dont know if it could be the CPU or what. I've changed basically everything and reset the CMOS a couple times and it still is restarting. Thanks in advance 🙂

i would say try the HDD, with reservations... a friend had a compaq which did the same thing. brought it into best buy tech support (cuz thats where he got it) twice and both times they replaced the HDD. so at least in some situations this makes sense to replace the HDD for random restarts...

of course they still havent fixed the problem, to my knowledge, as the HDD replacements did nothing but require him to back up all his data and reinstall everything... this is why i say to try the HDD with reservations... it didnt work for my friend so good chance it wouldnt work for you. if the HDD doesnt work... try booting with bare minimum components installed... and add in piece by piece until you find the conflicting piece...

if that doesnt work i don't know what to tell you...

Did you turn off automatic reboot in Windows XP's My Computer / Preferences / Advanced / Startup and Recovery options? That will give you a BSOD that will actually tell you what the problem is, and from there you can fix it.

If you want troubleshooting help, then telling us precisely what hardware you've got is always helpful 😉 Include the brand, model and wattage of your power supply, and the brand and model of your memory modules.

Video Card: Radeon 9500 Non Pro

what is the rated wattage of that PS.

That athalon will chew up the AMPs so it needs to be pretty solid.

Did you turn off automatic reboot so you'll get a BSOD so we'll know what actually happened? That's the best guide to what's actually going on. You can send me an FTP location of the minidump that's generated and typically I can tell you what's caused the machine to crash.

My suggestions:

1) bump memory voltage to 2.7 volts, clock the RAM at PC2700 speed to match your AthlonXP's bus speed of DDR333, and run Memtest86 overnight to see if it can pass repeated Memtest86 tests

and/or

2) Replace your power supply with a quality brand at 350W or higher, such as Antec, Enermax, or Fortron. Powerup = 😕 ~ never heard of 'em.

I suggest confirming it's hardware first.... make the changes to the auto-reboot values and we'll see. 🙂

have you checked for the blaster virus by any chance????
