Comp boots and then turns off in like 3 seconds

I have an Enlight 7237 and a Abit KT7A with Tbird 1.2. The power supply is a sparkle 250 watter. I know amd recommends at least 250 for over 1 gig. The machine boots up and immediately shuts itself down. Awhile back it had this problem, i turned it on a few time and it ran fine on this same power supply for like a week. Now it's doing it again, refusing to boot. All I have are 250 watters, I tried a few, all boot and off in 3 seconds or so. Any explanations? Do I need a new power supply?

Ouch--even though you have a great 250W ps...you definately need to get a 300W ps!! Running an AMD chip @ 1.2GHz with a 250 is not a good idea. If that's not causing your weird problems, is your computer beeping during the POST?? If so, you can always look in your Abit manual and cross-reference the beep to what the hell's going on.

i bet my lunch the problem is you do not have the processor fan hooked into the FAN1 socket of the motherboard... the KT7A has a failsafe that if it does not detect a CPU fan plugged into the FAN1 socket, it auto-shuts off

if you update your BIOS, you can turn this feature off, but make sure your CPU fan is spinning first.

FAN 1 Header? Consult manual and see magic...

Actually, get more than 300w. Proceed to 430 or so. The last thing you want to worry about is juice when you clock/install...

I'm running my t-bird AXIA chip at 1.35 gigahertz using a Sparkle 250 watt power supply running five ide devices and a tv tuner card with a MSI turbo raid mb. I'm not having any issues with stability...
