Comodo Version 3 released today.

Lemon law

As an item of news, after a wait of about a year, the final version of comodo personal firewall three freeware has been released. Find it at the comodo website or with auto updates if you have ver 2.4 although that may take some days.

Too early to tell if it will beat online armor or not but he CPF3 touts itself as offering more HIPS and other preventative protections perhaps ideally suited to computer security less knowledgeable. Foot print still advertised to be low.

I intend to give it a try but others should feel free to make up their minds on what choices they want to make.

Correct runestone.

The comodo website states that the new version only supports the 32 and 64 bit version for XP and vista.

So win95, win98, winme, and windows 2000 are cut adrift by CPF3.

The new version is working well on my XP pro machine. It is quite a bit more detailed on what it is doing as far as allowing and monitoring during web access and program installs.

Well, I updated to 3.0. The "Defense+" is a nice feature, somewhat annoying at first, especially when I went to play a game. I also had a hard time getting a file-sharing program I use to work, but it turned out to be a problem with my router and not Comodo. I don't need UPnP to be enabled while at school, but it is necessary when I'm at home. Also, some of the settings are a little confusing, but the help file does a good job explaining everything and even suggests temporary work-arounds, such as when you want to play a game (setting up automatic allow rules).

I just want to point out any new firewall will somewhat slow your computer until it learns your set up. And also want to point out that there is now somewhat a war going on between CPF3 and online armor for the freeware firewall that will set the new bar for the future of firewalls. Each is new, both are works in progress, and the consumer wins.

Having tried both, I can say neither handles lans well, and some might profit by waiting a month or so to jump.

Both online armor and comodo have forums. Just google either online armor forums or comodo forums and get some of the debates.
