Commuting to NYC

Does anyone here commute into NYC via train? Is it really terrible or manageable?

When I worked in NYC, near Grand Central, I commuted by train. It's not bad at all. In fact some I know looked forward to it. They got a chance to wind down from work before coming home to the family. Turn off your phone, kick back and read a newspaper magazine etc.

I commuted from Scarsdale, NY and from Stamford CT. I don't remember either being very long.

What's wrong with living in NYC?

If you've got plenty of money, probably nothing.

Otherwise, it isn't for everyone. I've lived in numerous large cities: Paris, Berlin, London and Miami so I was used to it when I moved to Manhattan. But I just came back from a visit and I can't take it anymore. It's too noisy, crowded and gives me claustrophobia. I've been living in a rural area in the mountains for many years now and can't take more than a few days in Manhattan.

it's pretty quick since the PATH and subway are in the same station. i used to do that sometimes when i moved to JC downtown from the Heights.

on a beautiful day it's a 20 minute walk which is good if you want some fresh air and to get a little exercise.

Oh, okay, that changes it a bit then. I thought you had to walk a block or two to the subway station. In that case, I think that PATH is a pretty good solution.

it's like a half a block walk underground to the NQR or BDFM lines.

i see where you get your username from. nobody else is complainin. and my views on these areas to live are honest as i lived in some of them and know them all well.

i'm as good at my job as you are at being a jerk on ATOT, which means pretty darn good.

i see a networking thread up top, so thought networking was allowed.

and i posted honest advice and opinions. i happen to love Jersey City and promote it all the time to friends and family. i also recommended Astoria. all my advice on commuting was on point and not misleading. many posters in this thread agreed with my opinions as well.

so go be your miserable self. must suck to be your significant anything in your life.

I take the LIRR, express train in the morning, express in the afternoon.
Bout 70-75 minutes each way. Plenty of seats. Nice quiet car
I'll either nap or read.
When I worked in midtown it was awesome. I'd walk from Penn to work everyday (Originally 53nd and Madison and then moved to 43nd and Madison.
I'm downtown now and now its a 10 minute ride on the subway added on to the commute.

I'd rather an hour and ten minutes on the train than 40 stuck in traffic.
